OK!! i'm running into problems with my turbo conversion. the car is a 1991 esi, the motor is a 1992 tsi awd and the tranny is a 1992 rs-t fwd. The pulse generator connector for the car has two wires, but the tranny has three... and i'm also using the N/T computer. Is the car going to run/ move if i use it the way it is? or am i screwed out of $650?

First off. Will the car run?....maybe . The real question is..Will it run right?....No. You will have to have a 1G (91-94) M/T Turbo ECU, injectors with resister pack, FPR, Maf, fuel pump and of course the IC and IC pipes. These are a must. Without those your screwed. As far as the tranny goes i'm not so sure (both my N/A & FWD tranny had 2 wires) but 650$ is not a bad price.......so far. If you want it run right you better empty your checking/savings account :thumb: trust me. Try www.vfaq.com/index-main.html. They have all kinds of info on drivetrain & N/A to Turbo conversions.
Hope that helps.

:talon:

both of the tranny's are auto. I've got the ic and yada yada yada. the car did run just fine before (had a nt auto tranny) the car runs just fine, all i want to know about is what exactly does the pulse generator do and what not. does anybody know? I need to know asap!! the acclaim is gettin hott in the 80degree weather. never mind the run part... i know it runs because i drove it for two months in the snow before the junk tranny i had decided to die.

if you are having these problems with your trannys I would go ahead and do the manual swap and eliminate all wire problems. The only set wires on the m/t is reverse light and some ground wires but thats just my 2 cents. Plus its less weight, alot more fun, and easy to do. Good luck :dsm: ;)

the manual swap seems too hard to do though... can anybody send me a link on how to do that? and how much money it will cost?

There is plenty of info on the swap if you do a search you will find it. The hardest part is putting the petals in. AS for the tranny and shifter its a breeze, trust me even if you check some of my old posts you will see plenty of valuable information. Don't forget the torque convertor bushing in the back of the crank if you do the swap or you will make the mistake I made. Good luck buddy. :thumb: :dsm:

thanks for the info.. does anybody have an extra car they wanna sell?? :D i'm actually kinda interested in doing this... but i don't know if i should... like my sig says, i leave in september for basic. will i have time to do that??

First off you get a parts car like you said thats an easy way to get started. Start with the petals because that the hardest part. As far as tools you will need a 10mm, 12mm, 14mm to do most of the work for this swap. Pull the drivers seat out because this will make it more accessable. Remove the underdash and disconnect cable for hood release. Remove ducting from underneath steering column. remove 4 bolts that attach sterring column as well as through bolt for the splined shaft where it meets at the firewall. Disconnect steering cable near the ignition switch. It locks the steering for the automatic. You won't need that anymore. Remove you steering column from car. Remove clevis from brake assembly at pedal assembly. Remove all the bolts from pedal assembly and yank her any way you can. The new clutch and brake assembly is harder to get in there. First if you look at the fire wall you will see 3 prestamped circles. 2 little and 1 big one. Make those holes appear in you firewall any way you can. We used a drill, file, hammer, and diagonal cutters. these prestamped holes are for you clutch master cylinder. You might have to bend some of the surrounding metal to get the new pedal assembly into place but if you are gonna quit anywhere this is where it will be......I promise you that. after there in bolt'em down and attach clevises for brake and clutch. while your inside remove the interior pieces around your tranny tunnel and shifter. If you look at the shift cable going to the firewall you will fint the auto tranny computer. Remove this as well because its in your way, this is where your manual shift cables come through. This hole is already prestamped but you won't be able to make until your auto tranny is out of the way. I did it with just the motor in the car. A real tight fit  dissconnect shifter cable and remove auto shifter assembly and slide you new 5 speed in there they bolt right up. Drop your auto tranny and do not forget to remove the torque convertor bushing from the back of the crankshaft. The flywheel should bolt directly to the crankshaft with nothing in between and use the flywheel bolts from the parts car w/ thread lock. Also use the tranny mount from the parts car because the auto tranny mount will sit to high....can't use it at all it is a nice paper weight ;) C-v axles should be the same. I am asuming you can figure out th rest its just like putting your stock tranny back in the car. Oh one more thing you have to bypass some wires at the inhibitor switch so your car can start. The harness sits near the battery. If you can work on her straight through you can do it in a weekend. If not take your time and get it done in a week. Its easy just pay attention to details and when you need some additional info just drop me a line. This basicall covers it but if you need help get at me and I will se what step you are at. This should be more than enough to get you started. Good luck buddy and I am here for for ya :thumb: :dsm:

i appreciate that man :thumb: now just to find a parts car... all the cars around here are n/t. i know the auto tranny's are different but are the 5speed ones any different? anybody else with an input would be greatly appretiated.

The only different between a 1g n/t tranny and the turbo ones are the gearing, the n/t tranny has a higher gearing. you could use that on a turbo engine, but your gonna need an upgraded clutch like an act2100
