Hey guys, have a 98 gs that I am seriously considering turboing in the next 4-6 months, and I have been looking at the hahn stage one and I like what I see so far, especially the fact that you can supposedly run it safely on stock internals. So before put this much money into my car, I would like to get some advice/input from some people who have put a turbo on a 420, mainly is it worth it, is it reliable, are you running stock internals, what turbo/kit did you use, etc. Any info would be appreciated
thanks for your help

First thing is first, do a compression check and make sure your engine is healthy before turboing it.

I used the Star Performance kit. Now, my engine DID just take a dive, but keep in mind I was running the Stage II and boosting at 10psi daily for a while (11psi for a couple of short runs also). I was driving while boosted on the 420a for almost a year and I was amazed at how much it improved performance. If you are interested enough to turbocharge your 420a, just know it isn't going to be a walk in the park. To avoid any small problems I would suggest you get a few supporting mods with the turbo kit. This mainly being an exhaust, larger injectors, and some kind of fuel tuning device (I use the Vortech SFMU). If you plan on going Stage 1, I wouldn't go any higher than 5psi (while non-intercooled). And judging by my experience with Stage II I wouldn't go above 9psi (while daily driving) if you want to be as safe as possible with your motor. If I missed anything, let me know..

If you have the funds, time, and knowledge/help then go for it! :dsm:

I have a 1998 Eclipse GS and it has the HRC Stage 1 turbo kit on it. Before it was turbo'd, I did not get a compression check, but after I got it turbocharged it ran like a dream. I have an Apexi N1 catback without the muffler (I had to take the muffler off because it wouldn't fit through my JDM Bomex bumper), but anyways, the car was very loud before the turbocharger, and now it's pretty quiet. I am running 3-5 psi on the street (3 cruising and 5 when I get on it) and I am very pleased with the results. I just installed the HKS Type 1 Turbo Timer and the 1/4 mile time that I got was a 14.7! (not bad for a car that couldn't run below a 16.3 before the turbo). Keep in mind that I am still on a stock clutch and stock internals and stock everything besides the turbo (power upgrade-wise). In conclusion I am very happy with the HRC Stage 1 kit.

I started off with a star stage 1 then I intercooled it got ride of the 35mm tial wastegate and got the new 38mm. Insted of using the fcd that star provides I used the ML (missing link) I have a 3" cat bact from a GS-T and I sold the t3/t4 that came with the kit and bought a GT30 I run 8.6psi daily Never ran it at the track. I have stock internals and never had a problem Iwas very pleased also. I sold my whole turbo kit......<OMG
I'am going to start over with my car it is still going to be turbo.and if you think HRC has the fastest 420a wait till I get done!!!! when the track opens up in april i'll let her rip and see what kind of times I hit:dsm:

Just wondering, what would be a "healthy" compression on our engines?

I've never done the test, but I'm curious to know because if it turns out to be good numbers then, I will keep my project in mind!

Only thing that scares me is that I have 118k miles even though car runs perfect.
