I was Changing the oil today?
I was changing my oil today, and i noticed that i had to use around 4 and half quarts too fill it up to max on the dipstick. Ive had this motor with 37k miles last year and it should be around 50k now and since then i always just use 4 quarts.....
and now its wierd how i have to start using 4.5 i have around 50k miles on the engine, anybody notice this on ## cars?
I also got another dumb question .. just curious tho,
What kind of oil do you guys use for the 420a Motor? Ive always used castrol gtx 10w 30 ....
thanks,
manny

I may be wrong on this one, but my 95 RS requires 4.5 qts of oil, and that can be verified in the CHILTON manual.
And for the juice, I use Mobil Syntec 10w-30. Supposedly the best, but all of the brands will tell you that about their product.
-Synthetic motor oil does the trick!!!

i blew 2 motors ... lol yep
kind of crazy rite..
my first engine, hit like 70k and it blew i used mobil full synthetic i fried the pistons... so my warranty gave me another one... cai intake and greddy exhaust.... mods
my 2nd engine came with 59k and i blew it in like 2 months... i went to change the oil at some jiffy lube kind of crap , my friend told me dont go to places like that ### they use old oil and the just filterize so you can use it again... o well i blew that motor.... i threw a connecting rod
my 3rd engine i got with 37k miles and i take care of it now like a baby so im using castrol gtx 10w30.. dont have to seem any problems... im just makin sure what everybody uses

4.5 qts is what the engine calls for so always refill with 4.5 qts. as for the oil there really is not "best" it's all about preference. I use mobil 1 synth. 10w30 also. IMO it's the best, but the main thing to remember is to change it like you should.

Filter design can change engine oil fill quantities as well. The Mopar filter 5281090 is the large filter and 4105409 is the smaller. Both will fit and filter the oil but the 090 is nearly twice the size of the 409. I fill my oil filter up with oil prior to installing it. This will mean there's oil in the pick-up, filter, and pump when I initially start the car at an oil change. The 090 oil filter will take 0.5 qts of oil. I would expect the 409 to take about 0.25 qts.

Actually I'm pretty sure it was made for the viper, but just happens to fit our cars.

Well, the filter fits vehicles as far back as 1971 which pre-dates the viper. It fits the viper yes, but was in use on minivans, k-cars, trucks, full-size vans and just about every other vehicle made by chrysler that allowed enough room to fit it in there. Honestly, I've yet to work on a viper so that's one oil change I've not done yet.

Ah.
Makes since not to modify the oil filter flange for the same make of car (if it fits).

So. you don't usually check your oil level after you've changed it and run the car? Naughty.

It really doesn't much matter these days. If it's a brand you've ever heard of, it'll be fine. I don't see synthetics as worth their cost, but that's just me.

nahh my 1st motor i have no clue how i blew it.. honestly i had cold air intake and exhaust and that motor ran a 15.7 at the track like 2 years ago.... that motor lasted till its 60ks around there.... and when we took the block off the head ... the piston rings were burned... so i was like imma just get another engine.... ( i didnt know anything about motors ### i was only 17 at that time ) if i had more experience i would of just gotten the pistons rings etc....
Anyways my 2nd motor lasted 2 months... they said it came wtih 59k... kk i believed them.... ... 2 months later .... boom TAC TAC TAC TAC TAC.... dropped the motor ... took the oil pan off ... o ok i threw a connecting rod...... read the vin on the block ... then went on carfax.com and found out the motor on that car had a accident at 86k on the body hmmm  ... and yes i did complain and got my money back
my 3rd motor which is in now i have got it with 37k, and i went on carfax to check it out this was like a year ago... and the motor is perfectly runnin smooth, but i always changed it with 4 quarts and it always read max.... i checked it a month later still at max.... but a couple nights ago i changed the oil and i seen that it only read Min... so i was confused i was like did something break ? ... so i looked at the miles and i was like kk this motor should be around its low 50s....
so yes i was a lil confused but thanx for the help guys
