may buy 95 Eclipse GS but need some advice

Hello everyone,

First off I am new here and was interested in buying this 1995 Eclipse GS. Now the car has alot of aftermarket parts including a performance exhaust, headers, cold air intake, spark plugs and wires, adjustable Koni shocks, 18" rims, Altezza Tail lights, new transmission, etc.

Now this type is non-turbo as you all know but what I have come across in some research is that the 95-99 non-turbo Eclipses have a Chrysler made 2.0 liter DOHC 16 valve engine. This worry's me a bit as I do not trust Chrysler engines and especially ones with 120,000 miles (thats how much the car has) so is it not wise to buy this car because the high mileage on this chrysler made engine? Or are these engines strong enough to go much longer? If so how much longer?

Sorry about all these questions but I want to be careful before I start pouring money into this Eclipse. From what i hear the Turbo charged engines are Japanese made and alot better. Should I just buy one of them???

i say get the 420a...

sell the intake and the header...but a turbo kit from www.overboost.com and then buy forged internals from www.howellautomotive.com

Then the bottom end will be practically brand new and youll have a fast ass car.

If you dont like that idea, i would say get the car. 120,000 miles is a lot, but they have been proven to hold a lot more. I look at the 420a not as a chrysler motor...but as my motor

The 420A is a lot more reliable than a 4G63, but lacks the power like you said. I mean if you REALLY want an Eclipse, then I guess go for it, but it will be a daily driver and by no means a track/race car.

Its more reliable then the Japanese made Turbo one??? Isn't this the same engine used for a Neon. Don't get me wrong I want to believe it because I want to get this car but I just don't understand. I did read and heard the cylinder head on the 420a was designed by Lotus and it was better made than most Chrysler engines but is there something I'm missing here? Especially with 120,000 miles on it, how much longer does it have to go? Any estimate?

im pushing more than 160xxx miles on my 420a and it still runs strong. if you want a car that is a daily driver then get the GS. if your looking for a car thats fast and highly moddable get a Gs-t or Gsx youll think your self later. my GS is my only running car so i love the fact its reliable. and it looks so good plus there faster than most hondas.

i beat the shit out of my car, its got 145,000 and still running like a champ besides the ####ed up 02 sensor

the engine itself is not slower than a 4g63 and if you decide to turbo your car with say a hahn racecraft kit your car will be faster than a stock gst.
