What's up, I'm making a book for a design class on why cars are modified. The 2 basic things I'd like to focus on are performance mods and appearance mods. I would greatly appreciate anyone's input as to why one modifies his or her car? Why spend hundreds or thousands on car mods? Does the appearance of a car reflect its driver? I've got my reasons, I'm interested in yours. I could use as much input as possible. Thanks.

Well, you should be doing it for yourself...and what I have found, through hanging out at the track for all these years...Most people do it for the thrill of it...For shaving off theose last few thenths down the 1/4 mile...but mainly Bragging Rights...I love being known as the guy with the badass fast White Talon you know??... :D

I agree with cyclone. Now on the flip side, the looks aspect, I think people want to seperate themselves from every other car that model. When I drive down the road if anyone that knows me see's the car they know it is me. There is no question. Don't get me wrong I don't like obscene bodykits or anything too crazy.

I like to do the performance enhancing mods without doing many(it any) appearance mods. This way the car still looks good (IMO) but when i'm at the light with someone... they really don't have any idea what kind of a bewilderment you're about to bestow upon them! I love just letting the AWD rip and jumping ahead of just about anything i've come across so far. That includes Camaros, mustangs, hondas, acuras etc...can't touch the take off of an AWD vehicle.

On the other hand, simple appearance mods (I'm not into the big bad body kits) can not only enhance your cars image, but give it that custom edge, something that you can enjoy without being overly obvious.

As far as why I do it with performance, its fun. I love spending all day hunched over/under the engine bay thinking what I'm going to do next to make this car lay its rubber on the asphalt just a little harder. As far as appearance, I'm not much into appearance mods. So long as its got a good paint job, the stock exterior works wonders for me. Then again i think its also because when u spend all day installing a performance mod adn then take her out for that first test drive...you feel like youve earned something. Where as with an exterior mod, sure its nice to look at...but what am i gaining from it?

for performance i think its trying to be better then the next guy modding his car. Bragging rights. Theres a superiority there when youre hanging out with a bunch of guys and you all have your babies with you, and nobody will race you because they know they will get smoked.

Performance: If you have ever pushed the gas pedal to the floor of a car, you know why i mod. Like someone else said, i like telling someone that i cant go to the movies because i need to get my UDP put in, or something like that.

Apearence: I like to set myself apart from other eclipses. All i have done on the outside is put on carbon fiber altezza tail lights.

Overall: I do it because i like the way i feel when i walk out to my car in the morning and just sit and look at it and say "that is MY car"

And i also like being refered to as "james with the eclipse"

here i posted this in your apperance thread and it has both style and speed sorry

when it comes down too it everyone does it for respect and to show off. LOL

i love buying stuf for my car that makes it just that much faster and that much better looking. when i drive down the street and ever single person is looking at my car i just love that feeling. at first i use to be scared because everone was steering at me but i came to realize that there looking at the car LOL. when i use to pull up at the street races to check them out i think everone in the hole area stoped to listen to my car and look at it. i dont think anyone around here knows external dump LOL. and that respect you get from others is just great.

and one other thing when you have older guys comeing up to you saying your car is alsome and fast as hel when then have a 69 camaro, nova, gto ect. thats the best. everytime i take out a v8 i get the peace sign of respect its just feels good LOL

o ya and the girls that just dream all over you car and just want to ride in it LOL.
