I want to build a 420a over the winter for my 98 rs I have called around to the local junk yards for one and out of the few that are in my area no one even has an eclipse. Can I use a neon bottom end for my eclipse? I know that the heads are different but I am not sure about the bottom end. :dsm:

yes you can use the bottom end of a neon DOHC or SOHC the two blocks are indeed identical to one another, My Friend has a 96 Neon with the SOHC 2.0 and he knows a lot on the neons and we checked around through are sources and what we got was this. The only difference is in the head, the DOHC motors have domed pistons vs. the SOHC motor

The SOHC can still give a respectable showing. 15.660 my only time at the track and I don't have alot in it.
Mods:
Crane Cam 10 or 12 I can't remember
Crane springs, titanium retainers
3 angle valve job
milled 0.010"
AEM Adjustable cam gear
Mopar Performance clutch and PCM

Stock intake system, stock exhaust and at the time stock 13" wheels. Since I broke an axle last time I went to the track on my second pass (attempted pass) I've not had the guts to go back and see if I could lower that any.

It's a nice cheap car with equal straight line potential as the eclipse (420A).
