I am without my service manual and at work, i need to know what is the stock size of a 1996 eclipse gs exhaust i think it is 2.5 but not sure. Please help ASAP as i need to order my free flow convertor today.

Let's try to get something straightened out here: exhaust "piping" is made from tubing. Pipe is measured by its inside diameter. Tubing is measured by its outside diameter. This is why this thread will bobble back-and-forth between 2¼" and 2½". The tubing is 2½", its inside diameter is 2¼". Also, the stock exhaust is a press-bent assembly, as is the case with most stock exhaust systems, particularly from the era of the DSM. Consequently, replacing the stock exhaust with a completely mandrel-bent one of the same size will show some gain in flow.

I have searched and I couldn't find anything about what I am gonna ask.
On a 94 Eclipse what is the stock exhaust pipe diameter? just wondering, wanna know if mine is still stock
Thanks

Well I have a 3" Buschur TP and cat-back. I am going to get an adapter made from the downpipe size to 3" and put my exhaust Downpipe back. Kind of ghetto but it'll work until I have the 300 bucks for the DP. So does anyone know what the dia is at the end of the DP? Thanks, Erick

I measured it once before.

I got 1 7/8 inch diameter on the ID. In the stock downpipe I couldn't get a good number - but it looked pretty close to less than 1 3/4 inches!!!!

No wonder these things wake up when you put on a 2 1/2 or 3 inch system!

There is one slight difference in the piping of the GS-T exhaust vs the stock non-turbo one. There is an additional resonator located just at the bend where the piping wraps around the gas tank. It is about six or seven inches long. If you just install the GS-T muffler, you will find the exhaust note slightly louder than if you install the entire cat-back. The piping is the same diameter between the non-turbo and GS-T, so other than the noise issue, installing the entire cat-back is not necessary, especially given the difficulty of removing the pipe from the catalytic converter and taking out the 02 sensor. This document will only cover the installation of the muffler-unit from the GS-T, which is all that is really needed.

Maybe it is but everywhere I have looked it says 2". I know it's not less than that. Honestly why does it matter. Stock exhaust is S*** and should be replaced. I have talked to several "Gurus" and they dont seem to know. Prolly because they don't mess with "stock" otherwise they would not be "Gurus" now would they.

I say your all right its whatever size you want it to be.

Happy Boosting

Anyone know the size of the stock exhaust, right after the downpipe? I'm looking to install a dumptube right after the downpipe for racing.
