ok, i got a friend with a 97 eclipse, she wants to get an intake. i told her she should prolly go with a cold air since ur cars have such a nice drop for it (the area under the hood) she wants a polished one? does anyone make polished cold air intakes? thanks guys

also what kinda gains are made outta the intake, im not familiar with the 420a chrysler motor...so i dont know much...yet;)

nakayama makes a polished looking one. you can ususally find a good deal on ebay. tell her to take a look. theres maybe a 5 hp difference. if she wants performance tell her to get an underdrive pulley. thats probably the best bolt on mod besides cams and cam gears for the 420a motor.

na, underdrive pullies i wouldn't suggest putting on a daily driver. i've seen some bearings of the crank of a guy that used one for about 20k miles and they looked like ****. he said he really liked the power gains, but would never use an underdrive pulley on a daily driver again. they really do kill the life of your engine. thanks for your help bud

I really don't know muh about cars.....but I love my eclipse. Try www.stylinconcepts.com Thats where I purchased my AEM cold air intake with bypass valve....It was about $300 with shipping costs. It is blue and looks sweet. The sound is great.....and I got about 5hp from it. Check it out.

Ingen and nakayama has nice polished ones that you could find on e-bay. Tell her to be carefull in dense watery areas with a cold air though. I have a Ice-Man cold air and i suced water in a rain storm and bent #1 rod broke that piston bent 2 valves and bent some lifter arms!! evry one be carefull all that costed about $3500 to fixand mine still isnt right!!

my buddy with a civic had the AEM cold air w/bpv so water wouldnt get suced and the dang foam stuff came off and went into his enigne! he dosn't have it any more he has a turbo civic now.

don't get the bypass valve - imo its completely pointless unless you live in an area that gets flooded often and you will absolutely HAVE to drive in those conditions (i live in s florida - happens few times a year here)

first of all, it lets in air all the time (the little flaps are not strong enough to keep it from opening during normal use) which means its pulling in hot air from the engine compartment which totally kills the point of having a COLD air system.

second of all - if you see a freakin lake - aren't you going to avoid it anyway?...

third - it ONLY works and has a purpose if the lower end of your intake is COMPLETELY submerged..

Kyle~
would you mind explaining in further detail about the UDP being a bad thing? its the next mod on my list and i'd like to be more informed about it - thanx

I agree that the by-pass valve is useless. I have the Iceman CAI, and Ive never had problems. Hell, at the car-wash I even use the high pressure sprayer on it. As far as polished ones go, I think that AEM has one.

Do they make Iceman CAI's for 1g 1.8L's? I know Injen is currently producing one for the 1.8L 1g's, but haven't found any.

Same thing with headers :(

I used to have a 94 1.8L, and heres what Ive learned...

1)2.0 n/t headers will fit on a 1.8L
2)2.0 n/t intakes will fit on a 1.8L
3)2.0 fwd cat-back's will fit on a 1.8L

I never did the first two first hand, but thats what Ive heard from other people. If your really interested in them(and I know you are), just take a look at a 2.0 n/t and see if they look the same.
