I have a blown head gasket on my 97 n/t. i got the fel-pro Head kit from summit racing. its a nice gasket kit and has all gaskets and seals needed from the head up. i have the haynes and chiltons book and it seems pretty easy.

is there any tips or tricks any expirenced people can let me in on???

also i was reading about setting the lash on the roller/rockers. i dont quite understand how it talkes about having the lash adjuster filled with oil. can some one explain this a little.

or should i just forget about it and bring my head in and get a valve job?

this is my first time doing something like this so please let me know anything i should know that haynes and chiltons forgot.

Thanks for any replys!!!

You may as well do a port and polish or a valve job since you bought all the gaskets. If all you needed to do was the HG then that's all you should have bought. But since you have it might as well use it. What kind of HG does that kit come with BTW I hope it's a multi layer steel gasket.

not going to port or pollish it. maybe a valve job.

but what do they do in a valve job???

i can replace the valve seals and i found some more info on the rocker rollers and that looks easy. i can clean the head myself with some assorted wire brushes and i have access to a solivent tank.

I got a Fel-Pro kit and it came with a muliti layer head gasket. but how would you replace the head gasket with out replacing all the other gaskets??? such as the valve cover and camshaft seals. you have to take the cams out to get the head off. if you used the old gaskets thats like asking for an oil leak. the car has 130k on it.

No you don't have to pull the cams to get the head off. You can pull the head with both manifolds and the cams still in place. All you need is a wabble ext. to get the bolts. As far as the felpro gaskets, i would look a little deeper into that HG I don't know if I would trust it, but that's just me.

i used a 9in extension and a hex socket to get the head off. its no problem at all. both manifold and all can be left on. just like he said
