The problem i am having with my car is that when i am about to stop the car it starts to rev by itself over 1k rpm and does not go down to normal idle until i come to a complete stop. I dont push the gas at all just the brakes and clutch in(sometimes) I did not start doing this until i changed the heater hoses and i disconnected the line to the IM, but i put all the lines back to the proper place. Any Help???

where is the throttle positon sensor located?? also where there is 3 connections that are located in top of the IM that are together. the one connection in the middle does not have a hose connected to it..is this normal???

My 96 Avenger has done this since I bought it at 40k miles. It never goes higher than 1100 rpm, so I don't worry about it. Probably something the computer is doing because it still sees it moving. While moving you would want the rpms up a little to help with the power steering assist.

Yeah I also got this problem recently too, its annoying but something I think we have to live with. I know I don't have no vacuum leaks though because I checked pretty good and even did a vac test. I'm done worring about it for now though, my only thing would be what velocita said which is the TPS.

The TPS is located on your throttle body, closer to the firewall (The back side).

I mean really if it isn't going too high I'd say don't worry about it.

Check your throttle cable as i had a similar issue and it just turned out the throttle cable wasn't adjusted right.

i have this same problem and it also jumps in rpm for a split second when i shift (not from me not knowing how to LOL) but its been happening for a while and it really doesnt bother me its just annoying but i think its the tps im gonna change it soon
also sometimes it revs higher and for a longer time then others

My car used to do this all the time at first I pulled over thinking shit vacuum leak but found nothing. I just learned to live with it since it didn't interfere with daily driving.

Alright, alright the rpm's up slightly while coasting to a stop is normal. That doesn't mean that other problems aren't at work here as well (with all the other points brought up).

Ok, lets do a test.

1. Park on a down hill, facing down.
2. See if car has "normal" idle (if it doesn't stop here and work on it. Vac leak, TPS, O2, CLT all those letters)
3. Now, with your foot off the gas and in neutral let her roll down the incline some
4. Now stop and turn the car around so that you are facing up the hill
5. Let it roll down the hill now (DON'T HURT YOURSELF ;))
6. Now what did you observe?

Keep in mind that the ONLY thing sending any information to the ECU is the speed sensor. The TPS should be reading the same, the IAC should be reading the same, the tire pressure sh...alright, the ECU doesn't read the tire pressure, LOL.

Let me know what you observed.

By the passenger side shock tower is where the throttle cable and cruise cable come together before being combined into one cable going to the TB. Open that box up and blow out any dirt/debris. Spray a little WD-40 in there and put it back together. Might press the gas pedal a few times between spraying to help work the WD in.
