I had a problem awhile ago with a churping belt during acceleration and deceleration on my 98 GS 420a A/T. It usually starts chirping after it has rained and there is moisture in the air but now it does it more often. I was told it could be the tension, the belt, or the harmonic balancer. I tightened the belt up with no results. The belt is not shredded on either side so it doesn't look like the pulleys are out of alignment but the churping/squealing still happens. Some days its worse than others, and some days its not there at all. Usually it doesn't make a sound but lately it has again. It doesn't make the sound at idle.. only during acceleration or slowing down.
(EDIT: The belt has not been replaced since I've had the car, this has been 2 years now and I'm not sure if the previous owner had ever replaced it. Car has 130k miles on it).
So does it sound like the belt or the harmonic balancer? As I said before, the belt isn't scraped on either sides
How hard is it to replace the belt? the balancer?
