97RS EGR Blockoff install CEL help

Hey all, I just installed the egr blockoff plate from CI motorsports yesterday in my 97 eclipse rs. I had insufficient air flow code a few times before and rough idle, and after i installed it yesterday it completely went away. On the way to work this morning the CEL came on right as i pulled in. How can I get rid of the CEL as i heard this kit didn't make it go off, which is why i got it.

MY INSTALL
I just installed the two plates with their gasket (one at each port of the egr= engine-egr, and intake pipe-egr), bolted it back up and that was it. Didnt remove any hoses, plug/unplug anything, or anything else. Am i supposed to do anything else to avoid the CEL when this blockoff kit is installed?

(I searched and alot of the egr topics were for early 90s cars and Talons)
 
Good discussion, but it still doesn't answer his question... That thread is still unsolved too.

Ok sorry. Anyway, there is talk of a resistor that you can purchase and plug into the EGR to prevent the code after you block it off. I do not know what type of resistor, but I am sure if you look hard enough, you might be able to find it. Good luck
 
to fix your problem: take the plate off of the back. your problem is that the egr isn't getting any flow through it. that's why you're getting a CEL. you are achieving your goal of not letting exhaust into your intake, but letting your egr partially do its job. which should fix your CEL.
 
Thanks for the replies and help fellas. I did look at that thread and the others, but as someone else said that thread is still kind of unanswered.

I tired three different methods, none of them worked yet. Here is what i tried

1. Install the two plates I got from CI Motorsports. One between EGR and the head, and one between the EGR and the long pipe that goes to intake manifold...got CEL

2. Removed that long pipe that connects EGR to intake manifold. Put a blockoff plate where the pipe connected to the intake manifold, and left the other two plates in (one between head and egr and one where the long pipe connected to the EGR). That didnt work and i got a CEL.

3. Same setup as step 2 except i removed the blockoff plate from between the head and EGR. So the only 2 plates that were in was where the long pipe flanges connected- The back of EGR and the intake manifold and that didn't work.

What else is left to do besides drilling a hole, which I'm not too sure on because if that gives me a CEL im screwed and will have to buy a new EGR valve. If I do drill a hole (where its circled in a picture in that thread linked above) what would i block off? I just want somebody that put blockoff plates in and have no CEL to let me know exactly what they did because this trial and error ive been doing is not fun in the 90+ degrees :notgood:
 
just block off the head from the egr. that way it'll open the egr through the ECU and stop your code. leave the other two that go from the egr to the pipe and the pipe to your intake manifold off. make sure that after you are done disconnect your battery and leave it off for 10 sec. that'll reset your ecu and you shouldn't throw a cel.
 
Thanks for your input LD25. Thats the one method I didnt try so far. I hope it works if not im just going to have to fork up the money for a new egr valve as I've taken this thing off about 4 times already in the past week or so and tired of it. I'll update if it works,
