I searched for any information regarding this and there is no answer for this problem. I read the forum on the DIY lash adjuster/lifter cleaning, but my lifters aren't able to bleed and I can't figure out why.

just a regular lifter

But look at the inside, there is something in there, and it isn't like the plunger described in the DIY thread

It is preventing me from letting me bleed the lifter, This picture shows how deep I can stick a pin or paper clip inside

It doesn't go deep at all, in the DIY thread and a you tube video shows the person is able to stick a paperclip all the way down inside the hole to look for the "magic button", but these lifters don't have that. I have been trying to bleed them for the last 2 hours and I already let them soak overnight in seafoam. Anyone have any ideas?

Tell us exactly what kind of lash adjusters these are and where you got them from so we can help you. I see you own an NA DSM. I'm not sure if you're able to use the lash adjusters the rest of us turbo DSMers use.

speaking of lifters. mine is from a 1997 eclipse gs and i m in the middle of a head rebuild. and i dont have holes in the top whats up with that? is this right? sry for the crappy picture

Those are stock lash adjusters that came with my motor. I have not modified anything in the head. These look very similar to the 3g's that turbo DSMs use, but there is no sweet spot on these and I am not able to bleed them...? I'm wondering why they wont bleed. I pushed real hard and moved all around the lifter, the paperclip I try to stick in doesn't even go in because of that inner piece. I also cannot clean the lifters by lining up the holes because the lifter will not budge unless it's bled first....

Beppe your lash adjuster is just like the one on my old head, but im not sure how you go about bleeding that one either... If you look close there is a very small hole, but it is flush with the outter part (http://vfaq.com/index-main.html)- go to engine and lifter cleaning and you'll see what I mean. You'll probably want to grab a new set of lifters because the 3g+ have better oil flow.

Anyone have any help? or ideas as to why every single on of my lash adjusters wont bleed? Are they jammed? I ordered a set from the PT cruiser from howell, but I really want to know why I'm having this problem and if anyone is as well.

Oh and this is the DIY I am referring to look how deep he can insert the paperclip,

so what car and year would i order the lifters for? for the better oil flow?

o yea i took a better look at the lifters for my 2g 97 and it does not have a hole on the top just a small indent. how does that work? totally confused right now  i poked at it just to see maybe if its dirt. but no its not even a hole. doesn't make sense to me

Try something thin like a paperclip, instead of a big old fat VOM lead.

I went through 3 paperclips with no success, the paperclip kept bending. The VOM lead was the first thing I could find to show you how deep I am able to stick an object through the hole. according to that write up that VOM lead should be able to drop down all the way into that hole. The lead may look like it is to big, but it actually isn't even close to touching the sides.

Beppe it's weird that you don't have the newer lifters since your year is a 97, but if you do a search on ebay for 420A Lash adjusters or lifters you'll yield results that show you a bunch of lifters that look like mine. The PT cruiser lifters and rocker arms are upgrades for our 420As because they are more efficient with oil flow, and the rocker arms are reportedly stronger; but if your staying stock the new rocker arms you order should give you the ones with the bigger diameter holes.

I just want to understand why I can't stick a paperclip in it like this...

<object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/gKX2pYVO0Ak&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/gKX2pYVO0Ak&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>

I mean all he did was curl a wire. Now I know it says 4g63, but I doubt the concept is any different for the 420A. The lifters look very similar.

He says that if they don't bend them valves will bend at start up, even when I put this lifter on a vice I had an extremely difficult time compressing it and it only compressed a little. Why are these lifters so difficult? I can record a video as well if people need a better visual.

mine too. bb dent thats it. how does oil shoot up? in the rocker holes? i noticed today some lifters were stiff to move and some were not. running low on money to buy new ones. i think they should be ok.?

if some are real easy to push with your hands, then the lifter maybe going bad and may need changing.

I just received my new lifters from howell automotives today... only problem is they are the EXACT same lifters as the ones I have in my car. The ones I ordered are the PT cruiser upgrades (Eaton lifters), and they wont compress at all either!! I am having the exact same problem with the BRAND NEW lifters (what a waste of money...)! I don't want to bend theses new valves because I can't prime the lifters. Are there really no 420a's that have changed their lifters?? Is there anyone that can help me prime these lifters and get them to compress? A paperclip will not go in deep enough like the 3g's on the 4g63 engine, if you don't believe me I'll be happy to take a picture for you... they look exactly like the old ones so you can scroll up and see. Is there no one that knows how these lifters work?

Forget it I had to find out on 2GNT. 420a lifters cannot be bled in the same manner as the 4g63s, you have to compress them in a vice... Thought someone on this forum would have known that... RESOLVED

I know of a few places that don't bleed the lifters, they do the install and let them sit over night. Check it by turning over by hand and then give it to the customer.

Our lifters (4g63 anyway) have to compress when in the engine anyway (they constantly change length) so by letting them just sit, they bleed down on their own to the proper height. I've even done it once, but i'd rather spend 20 minutes bleeding them compared to waiting overnight to start the car. but in this case i would feel better about letting them bleed down on their own compared to putting them in a vice and possibly leaving tooling marks in them that could wear on other parts of the engine ( i guess you could put them between wood blocks to avoif that as well though)
