I have a 97 Eclipse with a 420A non-turbo engine in it.

When I got the car the idle was very jumpy (250 to 1100rpm) I have fixed this problem but I need to know what to set the TPS voltage to?

My TPS has no adjustment by itself so I have to turn a screw on the other side of the TB w/ a T20 driver...

I had it set to 1.1ohm and MY idle was almost 3k and then I tried to set it to .9ohm idle was also to high... (this info was listed on this site) dont remember where.

I have the 2 bolt TB if this helps.

What Voltage or Ohm's I should adjust the TPS to???
I just got this car, Please help.

Just did a comp test and there was no codes. Happy there.
Just need to set the TPS to the correct possition.
I already changed the Idle control valve and will change the TPS in a couple of days. because i thought that it was making the crazy idle problem.

Also, where can I get a factory workshop manual?
It idles fine now, But I did turn that screw all the way out to raise the Idle wich raised the Voltage output on the TPS, I just want to return it to where it was because it wasnt the problem maker.

My problem was the Collant Temp Sensor... Changed also.

Should it be around .5volts when throttle is closed???

Please anyone. I'm sorry for such a stupid question.
I just have this only question conserning the TPS.
and Where can I get the workshop manual with all the prosedures, adjustments, specs and wire diagrams?

Anyone with this car, can you please hook up a voltage meter to the middle wire (of the 3) and to the ground and tell me what voltage you are getting out of the TPS.

Its very simple to do.
I just want to set the tps/throttle plate correctly, and I still think i'm off a little. (I know it should be closed)
Or my TPS is bad, maybe a deadspot at the idle/closed throotle location. but the only way I can see is If I can set the voltage output correctly. this is why I need it.
Other then that its working right.

PLEASE

I don't have a multimeter to check the voltage, but my car idles right around 800 rpm's.

we got ya man no worries, I can't check it for you right now because I'm at school, but it should be in a chiltons or haynes manual found at any autozone or autoparts store.....

The actual factory workbooks are really pricey and hard to come bye. You could ask the dealer how much.

Ok, I will check with them about the book when I go to the deler to pick up my wiper arms... Car didnt come with them.
And I drove it from Maryland home to PA without them and it was raining :D (@100mph) OMG

I will check for the manual at my local store and see if there is any info on this...
My car idles at about 800...

BTW: Does this car has a hi idle when cold. because my car jumps to about 2k at soon as i start it then about 4 sec later its at 800 (does not stay at 1.5k when cold till wormed up)... it idles when the motor is still cold.

I did replace the Idle Control valve, temp sensor, o2 sensors already...
on comp car has NO codes. so no probs there, I think.

When throttle is closed, TPS should read approx. 0.4v, when WOT, a maximum of 3.8v.

Update:

I idle at 900 to 1.1k. (usually 1k, not 800)

.4v Damn, I currently have .824v... Back to work for me... I really need to check this TPS. I think its busted. but I will never know unless I test it. I think I will just get a new one anyway.

Now this makes sence, maybe this is why I do not have hi-idle when the engine is worming up...

BTW: I have a hissing noice in the back of the intake (between intake and firewall) Is this normal or is my gasket bad (between upper and lower part of the intake manifold).
I checked all the vac lines and they are all good.

Thank you all for the help,
Roman

Is there a gasket between the top and bottom intake plenums? I believe so,

Lightly hit the spot with small amounts of sopay water (or brake cleaner if your brave enough) as see if you can pin point the leak exactly, if there is one.

Thank you all, I will check it out.

I might just replace all or most of them anyway.

This eclipse has 80k miles on it, so its due for a little r&r... Not to mention the fuel filter looked like it was the original mitsu filter (and i mean original, never replaced)

Any advice on what to change so I would not miss it while doing all of this.
I think I will also change the Timing belt, idlers, tentioner and water pump.
I'm sure its due.

Here is what I changed already:
Idle control valve
TB was cleaned and gasket replaced
fuel filter
OIL and Filter
plug wires

Will change in the next 2/3 days:
Not sure what plugs to use (Recomendations Please)
TPS will be changed tomorrow (will try to set it to .4v) Current one I cant get it down to .4v
Will change the Trany Oil (5 speed) What is the best gear oil to use and velosity

Almost forgot:
What bushings should I get for the car? (Control arms, suspention, motor mounts, etc.)
and for some reason when I apply the emerg brake and when I try to push the car the whole hub moves forward and backword (I believe I need the lower control arm bushings) will jack-it up and see what is wrong there tomorow.

Correction:

I currently have .624v from the TPS, not the .824v I stated earlyer..
Will set it to .4v within an hour.

Thanks for the help/advice.
Roman

I have a prob...

I cant get the TPS to register .4v, The lowest I can get it is .62v.

I already tried to remove the bolt that stops the tb from rotating to far back, but it was no use...

Its set to .624 now because if i go any lower the throttle plate starts to stick when you close the throttle fast and try to press the gas fast....

I tested the TPS and it responds to even the slitest move and works good, my max is 3.92v at WOT.

The engine idles awesome at 750rpm, no more hunting up and down.

P.S. Should i just get a new TPS and see if it changes???

Also, Where can I get the temp sensor that is right below the ECU temp sensor on the thermostat housing??? My temp guage in the car does not work and I saw somewhere on this board that this sensor controls the guage.

Thanks again,
Roman

Car is almost finished. Looks awesome. I will post pics as soon as its done (On my website).:D
