So I think I already know whats going on, but pls give some feedback if I'm right or not. 97 GS overheats when not on freeway, and coolant boils in overflow. When Idling, you can hear air being forced into the resevoir. The car smokes (blue, oil) when stopped, or driving on the streets.

Both have been increasing together in intensity and frequency, I am almost positive that this is a blown HG (and pray head isn't warped), causing both and a faulty thermostat may have led to the initial overheat and blown HG.

Just bought car at auction, I have not looked into it much, its been in and out of the body shop and seems to be the case. I should probably do a comp test (obviously), but the two incidents seem to go hand in hand, to me at least.

Let me know what you all think, and let me know if you know and really good, reasonable machine shops in the Tacoma/Lacey/Ft Lewis, WA area.

Thanks and peace............

You sound like you're on the right track... a compression test is first, which will probably reveal that you'll need to replace the headgasket.

Hey man, your in the ft. lewis area, I'll be down in olympia this weekend, PM me and I'll see if I can help you out with anything.

Headgasket seems to be the word. Check for any oil coming out of the breather, because you still want to make sure the block is okay, no blow by passsed the rings.

But your on the right track, compression test, and P.S. if for some reason the head is warped, call up Buds Machine shop 253-555-buds, right next to fastlane 1. Good people there that will help you out for the right price, and get it done right.
