st pete,
Im just beginning to modify my car. I have a 94 eagle talon es (2.0), and havent done any performance mods yet. I was just about to have a pacesetter cat-back exhaust put in, until someone told me today that a 2.5" exhaust would be too big and that i may actually lose power, not to get anything bigger than a 2 1/4". Is this true? Also has anyone tried the paceseeter exhausts yet? Are they any good? And if not, any other recommendations out there? I do plan on doing quite a few more mods, and am still deciding wether or not I want to go as far as to put a turbo or supercharger in, in the future. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys

i have heard that too about the 2 1/4. i am just starting to mod up my 97 GS so im not sure. but i do know if you go to big you will lose back pressure and then lose HP. im not to sure about the pace setter cat back. only been on the board a day or so but havent seen to many good things about it. i am going to go with a flowmaster muffler with duel outs and have a shop put it in with some mandrel bend pipes in from the cat back. im guessing it should be around 200 bucks instaled for that set up.

Yeah, Ive only been on since today, but been reading the board for about 2 weeks now. I heard the same thing regarding back pressure. I just want to try and get the most power I can out of an exhaust without spending a fortune to begin with. I was quoted $250 installed on the pace setter, but I did also hear that they sound real nice, but dont perform that great. If you hear anything else let me know.

I have a 3 inch exhaust on my car. I dont notice any power losses but i do notice a power gain on the top end. (above 60) The only thing i dont like about it is that its hella loud. It gets annoying. So im gonna order one of those Tucan mufflers or somthing to put on it instead of the muffler i have. Or a tunable one. But in all honesty, u wont notice a loss of like 1 horsepower and that wont affect u in any way. That pacesetter should be just perfect. Its inexpensive too! lata

ok, thats good, but did any of you notice any low-mid range GAINS? If not, what about after I add a short ram intake? I hear not to get a cai, because its so close to the engine that the air only ends up heating up again. Is that true also??

i think you got it backwards. the CAI keeps the filter away from the engine and sucks in cool air from under the car. the short ram system puts the filter right next to the engine so it will suck up all that hot air from around the engine. go with the CAI.
