Okay guys... im technically having problems with my car ... its deffenitly on the head .... when i accelerate slowly from 1000 to 6,000 rpm... idk if its the valves or lifters... it makes some wierd ticking noise .... from 1k to 3k rpm its not as loud but from 3k to 6k its kind of annoying....and im burning a lil bit of oil latley....

does anybody know wtf is wrong with my #@%#@%#@%#@% .. thanx

i could be wrong but it sounds like lifters.

were you running your car hard then it started suddenly?

awhile back i was really beating the hell out of my car trying to hardest to keep up with turbo'ed eclipses (back when i didn't have my hahn). after one night of driving my lifters started hitting. I parked the car over night and by the next day the sound was gone. my friends and I thought maybe i ran the oil thin. the sound hasn't come back.

id definetly check / change your oil.

James

last time i changed my oil, i ran 10-w 40 by accident. i get a little bit of lifter tick on a really cold start, like in the morning. or if it hasnt been started all day. just till it warms up though.:dsm:

i use castrol gtx 10w30.... i think im goin to go for 20w 50 because im always redlining my car

do u know what a rocker is? some kid had the same problem with his integra and was like yea its a ocker i dindt wanna feel dumb and ask him.... i was like wtf? anybody know

yep 21.. is the one thats makin noise the rocker.. umm i can tell its like right next to my valve cover... u can hear it... only when the car is cold.. and when i acclerate slow... im not losing compression tho.. do u know how much to fix it?.... i checked my oil too everything is okay im not burning oil thank god .... umm should i use 10w40 or 20w50??

is it pretty loud or soft? I would try and use a higher octance then normal if that doesn't have any effect. Pull the valve cover and
see if it's loose or warped. If it is you could go cheap and get
one from a junk yard. But I wouldn't do that to my car. Buy a
entire new set from Summit racing or a speed shop around you.
They are pretty simple to replace. But make sure you have a Haynes
or chilton's manual with you so you know what the torque specifications
are.

i have another head from another motor LOL.. so can i just take it out of that one LOL

yep... but when i gas it hard... u cant hear it anymore... only when im like doing 0-25mph... and i have the gas pedal halfway.. u hear something loose... rattling in the motor

it does sound like the rocker, my car has a problem with the rockers ticking it started about 10,000 miles ago but I don't car much cause I plan on doing an entire rebuild and turbo kit to my motor. My ticking sound like the same as yours, ticks pretty bad when it's cold and at low rpm's but when i get into it the ticking goes away. If it was a spun rod bearing then my engine would be toast a long time ago, also a rod bearing is more of a knocking sound than a light ticking.

pressure light came on.. i guess the oil light i only ahd 2-3 quarts of oil... so i changed the oil... noise calmed down.. but came back up .... i check the oilevery week oil is still good =) always on max

old mechanics trick for ticking lifters; take either a 1/2 qt of automatic transmission fluid or a small bottle op brake fluid and pour it into your crankcase. only leave it in the engine for 500 miles, at the 500 mile point drain and change your oil. the atf and the brake fluid both are really strong cleaning agents. usually when a lifter/ rocker tap is happening in an engine, there is either varnish or choke(carbon) build up inside your lifters. the atf/ brake fluid breaks it up and gets it out of the lifter. it's cheap, efective, and very easy. if it doesn't solve your problem then you know it is something worse......

chill idk about that puttin atf in my car..

great i just blew my motor... my uncle said their was no oil in the motor... and im gettin mad because i changed the oil 12-10-02... i thought i cracked the oil pan.. but i didnt... my uncle said my connecting rods and crankshaft just went....

mine did the same. timing is off and she was low on oil. fixed my problem. peace.

i still got warranty on my ##### so im good.. their sendin me anothe rmotor... agian this is the 4th one.. piece of #### 420a

too bad i didnt read this thread the same thing happened to me i was 25 miles away from my house when i am getting onto the on ramp of the 5 interstate when i floor it and it didnt get up to 5,000 rpm and kinda felt like gravity was pullin me back so i ignored it continued shifting half way home on the freeway i hear same clicking sound dont know what it is but i wasnt going to stop *big mistake* i got 2 blocks from my house damn Clah clah clah so i stoped checked it was engine i might as well drive up the hill i said since i couldnt push it got home clah clah CLAH so i knew i had broken something just a thought hehe put it in my backyard and i checked it for oil and it was empty its strange cause i had put oil 3 days before this and i had no oil leaks on my concrete. so i put oil in it after this sound and it still sounds the same yesterday last week a friend from socal dsm came over said it was rod knocking my friend comes over yesterday and he wants to here it i turn it on after putting oil in it still sounds same never calmed down i started to rev it a little bit got to 4000 rpm hehe a little and it went WABOOM broken so now i got a broken car in my parking lot and tommorrow i am taking it to mechanic so i can get it rebuilt to wistand alot of horsepower so all i have to do in future is drop in a turbo. some story eh? too bad i didnt read the thread earlier could have saved u money sorry~. looks like we are both in the same situation now.........
