My 97 gs has alot of miles on it and is starting to crap out on me so I've been searching for a new motor. I came across a 2.4 n/t SOHC for 95-99 eclipse. When and in what model is this engine found? My car has the 2.0 DOHC. I havent heard of a 2.4 and single overhead cam. Im just wondering what the specs are on it and if it is better or worse than the 2.0 DOHC in terms of upgrading and performance. Any info is much appreciated :thumb:

Its got more horsepower to start with, a whopping 142hp (at the crank), SOHC, so that sucks, and they're aren't that many parts.

If I were you I'd take that motor of yours and rebuild it.

Rebuild it with what you ask? I say whatever you want.

If you ever thought about going turbo, do a low compression bottom end. Like 8:8:1 or 8:6:1.

If you just wanted a lot more power without turbo, You could do a high compression bottom end build, with 10:5:1.

You could also just do a simple stock rebuild for about $300 bucks.

If you wanted more displacement, howell makes that 2.2L stroker kit.

And another thing to try is that AFX ECU from howell, since your 97.

All in all, my opinon is to not give up on that 2.0L DOHC, especially with a 97 motor, you could make it a brand new one, and have some many other options.

The 2.4L would limit you.

actually the 2.4 is from the gs spyder. isn't it a 4g64. you could actually take a 4g63 head and slap it on to the 4g64 block and ca boom you have a stroker/hybrid. which means 4g63 power handling with a 2.4 displacement. so you could spool a bigger turbo faster. and i heard that that bottem end could also handle like 10psi if you want to boost. 4g64 W/ 4g63 head is swt. thats what i would do shoot.

yeah umm, he has an n/t though :toobad:

he would be paying so much money for the swap that he could have his motor rebuilt, stroked, etc for the same amount of money as trying to fit that engine and wire it up :nono:

so...your answer is no :thumb:
