St. Louis,
1. From what I have read, the more wide open your exhaust is on a turbo car, the better (in fact no exhaust system would be best), because the turbocharger can spin more freely. But I have also read things about non turbo cars that say having exhaust thats too open (that eliminates back pressure) is bad for non turbos. Is this true?

2. I know that resonators help lessen loud exhaust noise, but do they restrict flow very much? And do they make the sound of your exhaust higher pitch, lower pitch, or just quieter?

3. Will using a test pipe (catalytic converter eliminator) increase the volume of my exhaust sound very much? Will they change the way the sounds in other ways (i.e. more grainy, or rumbly)?

Basically Im just looking for a way to effectively increase horsepower on my non turbo without making it sound like a dirt bike with a kazoo stickin outta the exhaust manifold.

Any links or answers are appreciated.

1) Its true to an extent. You want exhaust to flow freely but too much flow means loss of torque which is fine at the top end but sucks at the bottom end.

2) Resonators dont restrict flow as much as everyone thinks it does. Best way I can describe it is a deeper tone, less weed whacker, more barry white.

3) Yes, ALOT same as a gutted cat. me no likey the sound of a gutted cat, but thats personal preference. Plus you get a CEL (Check Engine Light)

Best bet is an aftermarket exhaust made for your NA car, or get a stock GST catback.
