Can I put a 2G mas air flow sensor in my 1G 1.8 N/T?
What benefits would I get (if any) by replacing the 1G mas with a 2G mas?
ThanksOMG

Yes, it can be done, but isn't worth it unless you have a highly modified 1.8 with a turbo conversion. The 1G 2.0 MAS and the 1G 1.8 MAS are very similar. You would follow, for the most part, the same procedure as the 2G to 1G MAS conversion on VFAQ, and you WILL need an AFC to tune it right. Gains will be noticable, but minimal (between 10-20HP on most engines) for the amount of money you'll be spending. This gain is mostly attributed to the tweaking of air/fuel ratios and not really from the higher flowing MAS.

what kind of gains will be expected from just an afc? or is there any other things that i can use to do similar a/f tweaking? not the data reading but the actual tuning. thanks

With an AFC, you can lean out areas in the RPM range, which net you a little more power. With just an AFC, you won't see much. Maybe 5-10HP at WOT on a 1.8 depending on your mods.

The AFC modifies the MAS signal that the computer sees, effectively allowing you to control the amount of fuel the computer injects. It's a pretty complicated thing to try and emulate, which is why the AFC is so expensive. If you're looking to just lean out your mixture, you can bore a little out of the two air bypass holes in the MAF itself a little to allow more air to flow around the MAS, but if you take too much, you'll upset the air/fuel ratio enough to cause detonation. And once you do it you're stuck with it. Also keep in mind that this only changes your ratio at WOT. At part throttle, the computer will be reading the O2 sensor anyway, and trimming the fuel appropriately so it really isn't worth the money unless you have a turbo and need to do major fuel mods.
