Can i beat him?

i am going to buy a 1992 Non-Turbo Talon (Automatic, unfortunately)

and this guy *kind of a friend* has a 1989 Mazda 626, 4 door, (5 speed)

now from what i hear the Automatics are pretty slow, i know 5 speed on 5 speed i'd destroy him... but i don't know what Autos can do... i know i'll have about 20-30 horse on him, and maybe a few hundred pounds less... but does that even it out?

i don't have alot of knowledge as to exactly what a N/T A/T can do.

i have a 1990 laser n/t a/t and yes u should be able to beat him pretty easily to. i have beaten a lot of people with my car. i don't really have a lot of knowledge either because i am new here. and i have only had my car for about 2 or 3 months.

A/T's are just slow on launch, but they can get decent numbers when tuned and built up. An AT transmission sometimes is as good or even better than a MT, so don't get discouraged. 30 more HP and weight will seriously make an advantage on acceleration.

actually it would be my idea that autos would get a better launch, but not necessarily a faster launch

all you gotta do is push on the gas

in the drag racing platform yes an auto is much better than stick, but that is when you are making huge amounts of power. in the 400 range and such.
