Anyone know where to get a list of the stuff needed to swap a 2.4stratus motor in a 2GNT?

Thanks

Rogue

I dont know that there is a list of the specifics, but logic says you will need:

motor and tranny (unless the tranny's are interchangable)
motor mounts (most likely custom made)
axles
wiring harness
computer
and probably more that I've forgotten....

You can do some checking and comparing part numbers to see compatabilty. Honestly, if you have the donor car siting right next to your DSM, it might be easier, but you're looking at alot of fabbing for a few horsepower--not enough IMHO to justify all this work.

For what all this might cost, you could put a turbo kit on your 420A and probably get better power yields.

Good Luck! Joe

I am so sorry to say this:
PLEASE, Use the search function u will find a lot of info related to it.
Search for :

SWAP

2.4L

Also go to www.2gnt.com

dude, ( ntjoe) u are wrong. The good thing of the swap is that we can use our parts. We only need the block and some other little parts. (nuts, bolts, brackets, etc.)
We could use our cpu, but aftermarket is better than stock.

The PITA is when u run across the passanger side mount, Rewiring, pu the brackets of the A/C and power sterring. Remember, somebody is trying to make a swap kit. we need to be patient.

You can use the block from the 2.4L and then install your 2.0L head and all that onto it. This allows you to use the stock ECU and tranny. You will need to fab the crossmember due to exhaust/oil pan clearance issues. There is motor mount fabbing required and I've even seen one guy at ASOG fabbing up a custom t-belt tensioner. Can't have that timing belt going on you with a new engine.

It's not a simple swap (as there are no simple swaps for 2GNTs), but it has been done. I can think of maybe a half a dozen people who either have it done or are in progress.

Well I'm tired of searing 2gnt and nabr, so maybe you could just give me the link, instead of using the 'use the search' cop-out.

Already read all of them before.... One post had a 'list' of everything needed, and that is what I was looking for. But, nm, just answere me this, what do I have to do to the cam angle sensor and ignition.

Thanks

Rogue

No problem!
That is why we are here, to help each other, not to scream and fight with each other.

Anyways, here it is the list of things of the swap. I hope it helps you. I want the 2.4L swapper technicians to correct me and add whatever is needed.

I didn't do the swap!!! but I will!!!. I am waiting for the famous swap kit!!

All the info was found in 2gnt.com and gathered from all of those posts. Remember: there are old posts, so some info might be wrong and not 100% correct.

I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING RELATED TO THIS INFO. I DO NOT WANT TO HEAR ANY COMPLAINTS. I AM JUST SHOWING MY INFORMATION, OK?

So here it goes:

Parts u may need: OMG
-The 2.4 L block (with everything inside, even the oil panel)
-The 2.4 L head COVER (some people say that u might use it but *** said: It won't fit) ---All this if u want that ur head cover say 2.4L Dohc and not Dohc 2.0L. It is an easy thing, but an important detail.
-U might want to buy an AFC to manage the extra displacement. I guess if u are going in real power u might need it.
-Pistons, rods if u want to replace the stock ones and u want to feel the engine better.
-You need better injectors (I guess 400cc)
-U need a custom passenger mount (PITA is what some people still call it)
-The oil pan from the 2.4L not the 2,0L
-Water pump (as a precaution)
-Timing belt tensioner I know there are two types: but I am not sure which one is the best. Somebody say that any of those can be used it doesn't matter. I don’t know about this so correct me)
-I know u need the 2.4L corner bolts (4) of the block
-Under drive pulleys (if u wants)
-Pt cruiser alternator bracket
-U might need to have a bigger T/B to breathe better (the bigger the better)
-All the gaskets!!

Parts to be done:
-Turn the pcm(90degree) the cam magnet (I don’t know if it is clockwise)
-Remove the balancers if u want to rev more than 6,200rpm (U might feel vibration but who cares) :shhh:
-U might need to get an aftermarket cpu if u are having problem with the fuel cut.
-Cut the hood sub frame because the engine is 1 inch taller or just get a tall hood.
-Dipstick need to be re-routing (I have no idea what the @#$% this is)
-The down pipe need to have an extra inch more (weld machine)
-Part of the oil pan need to be removed and welded a part to seal the hole left (because of the lower frame of the car) :p
-I think u need to create a bracket for the P/S and A/C (there are option that I dunnot yet, maybe with the kit)
-Fix the problem with the lower radiator house (easy I guess)
-Rewire some cables (I don’t know which ones)

Parts that u need from ur car: :)
Head block
Transmission
PCM
Alternator
P/S
A/C

I hope this helps everybody. I don’t know want to be responsible for whatever happens to the engine or your car. I am just a guy, who recollected the info, and decided to post it to help someone else that needs.

Also, I want to say that please let it be checked by the expert before any bad comments!

Rogue : good question and i do not have the answer for that. I didn't cross that problem yet! but wait for the experts.

Sorry man!

I have a 2.4 swapped neon, but I'm not sure how much is the same. I used Crane 2.4 cams so I didn't have to mess with the cam magnet, but it needs rotated 90 degrees if you use 2.0 cams. We have to swap the 2 outside wires on the coil pack and rewire the fuel injectors - 1 moves to 2, 2 to 3, 3 to 4, 4 to 1. Pretty simple.
As for the passenger side bracket, it's simple. It just drops the motor down a little and alows you to use the 2.0 motor mount and adapts it to the 2.4 block mount.
Here's a pic of 1 of them.

As far as fuel injectors go, we have to step up to atleast 24# injectors. I'm running 30# injectors in my high comp, big cam 2.4

I am doing a last try here!
I am trying to know if people are interested in the 2.4L swap but obiously nobody is.
I haven't see anybody doing a post for the 2.4L swap.( for a long time)
And my main question is: WHERE IS THE KIT FOR THE 2.4L SWAP?
Does anybody know about it?

My engine is broken already, and i don't know what to do .

Tito

Hey bud, I am very interested in this swap and am gathering as much info as I can to prepare. As for the "swap kit", I heard a couple talking about it but nothing has materialized as of yet. The pass mount that is pictured above will not work on our cars, for what reason I don't know just yet but I have read before that somebody tried it and it doesn't. :thumbdown That piece will have to be custom until somebody produces one. Basically, it boils down to the fact that it hasn't been completed by enough people yet and there is not enough interest for the manufactures to warrant it yet. Remember the supply versus demand theorem from economics? Anyway, have you checked on the other site? (2gnt.com) There is alot more info over there due to this site being primarily for the 4g63 guys. Unfortunately there are not alot of pictures floating around. You'll have to do alot of reading. Best of luck to ya tito, feel free to pm me if you would like to discuss something further...trust :laser:
