anybody know what the difference is between them? i know they come with different turbos and thats prob. all thats different. but which turbo is better, which one am i better off with. im undecided between star stage 1or 2 or hahn stage 1 or 2. which stage all depends on the $ i save up come the end of feb. star kits are a little less expensive too. any idea which one would produce better results? and which turbo is better?

Oh man you HAVE to research this a little more because you have no idea about either of the kits components. My honest opinion since I don't want you to make a bad decision.

Fuel System - HRC uses a loud inline pump with an HRC billet FPR while Star uses IMO a much better Vortec FMU with an intank pump. Star is better here.

Turbo - t3/t4 which is pretty huge and laggy vs a s16g which flows plenty for most people and has a quicker spool up. Its a toss up on this one.

Manifold- Star features a manifold that is hell to work with and uses an external WG while HRC uses a better manifold with an internal gate. HRC because of ease.

Downpipes - HRC uses your stock DP by slipping their downpipe over your stock on. Star at least features a full DP but I don't know how good it is. Star here.

Intercooler - both are good, star has a bigger fmic I *think*.

All in all I would DEFINATELY go with HRC because of the superior tech suppport over Star. They have better install instructions also. Star has some issues as well as HRC.

This is my opinion and more opinions about this are welcome. Just don't flame me for having opinions.

dude y would i flame u, youre helping me out. anyway im prob. only going to go with a non intercooled stage 1 so the intercooler is out of mind for now anyway. but i think im leaning toward hrc stage 1. 14.5 sounds good plus the mods i got now. i just wanna have a turbo and be quick, not a drag car or even an 11 or 12 sec. car i mean thats cool and all but i think low 14's high 13's would satisfy me for now. i def. want the blow off sound, ppssshhhhtttt! gotta love it.

HRC has a much bigger FMIC. Another note, I really don't think that 14.5's on the 1/4 are going to be realized with the Stage 1 kit from either manufacturer. You will be much quicker tho. I have the HRC Stage 2 w/ FMIC and I think that it is great kit. Also I prefer to have the internal wastegate cause the external is very loud and sounds like a dumptruck IMO. As far as downpipes go, I do not like the HRC setup, and want a better pipe made. On the other hand Star has a full downpipe but it lacks a flew section which can be bad also. All in all with all the R&D and tons of tech help, I would go for the HRC kit.

Star actually has a different FMIC now with their kits that will be out in a week or 2.

You are right about HRC's 1/4 time claims. They were probably on slicks with a pro driver to get those times. I have never seen anyone within .1 of their times.

If you are buying a turbo kit just so you can hear a blow off valve you need to reevaluate how you spend your money. If you really want just buy a blow off valve and mount it on your intake, yes this will work, it won't be nearly as loud but you'll still get the sound. Personally i think blow off valves are really starting to get played out. Most people with turbos find the loudest highest pitch BOV they can and vent it to the atmosphere so others can here it. Really that's a waste of money, BOV are essential with turbos but venting to the atmosphere creates lag in the turbo by not keeping the vacuum on the intake side the same speed. Venting the BOV back into the intake is a much wiser and performance concious decision.

STAR STAGED KITS!
Stage I kits produce 176hp @ only 5psi of boost & 164ft lbs of torque measured @ the wheels.
While Stage II Kits produce around 234hp @10psi with just over 205ftlbs of torque.

HRC STAGED KITS?

STAGE I
5-7 PSI
200 to 225 HP
14.5 seconds @ 95 MPH (-1.5 seconds vs. GS-T!)
Mitsubishi/HAHN Super 16G TDO5H-16G10CM2

STAGE II
8-10 PSI
250 to 275 HP
13.7 seconds @103 MPH (-2.3 seconds vs. GS-T!)
Mitsubishi/HAHN Super 16G TDO5H-16G10CM2

Why Such A Big Difference?

Because Star is more accurate and HRC obviously had that car hella tuned and a damn good driver.

If I believe every claim out there I would have a shitload of infomercial products.

thats what i was thinking...

I have always thought that they post times that were earned after about 6 days (exaggeration) of tuning and a set of drag's.

One time a friend of mine called them and asked the rep. if he didnt run the times he was told it will run with the kit can he return it?, he was given like a 20 min. excuse on what the factors could be that would cause him to not run those expected times.

Ive always though Hahn should post the actual times of cars that they threw the turbo on, tuned for about 2 hours and then raced.

Those are actual times though. HRC is a VERY good dealer and not lying. They are one of the BEST and most knowledgable people around when it comes to turbosystems.

I think HRC's numbers are also at the crank and not at the wheels. I dont see how there can be such a large difference in wheel hp, especially since the S16G is a smaller turbo than the garret that the star kits come with.

So you think that the HAHN racecraft kit shows to crank hp?

And star shows to wheel hp?

i think i may call hahn and ask them if that is to the wheels or to the crank and post the info that i get from them.

Can someone contact Star and ask them if its to crank or wheels?

I realize that the hp numbers will be close at such a small boost level, but what about when you start boosting 15+psi?? You can not honestly tell me that the HRC kit will be able to match the power of the STAR kit (all things being equal but the actual kit). Even at 5-7psi there is no way that the S16G will put out 200-225hp and the T3/T4 only put out 176 @ 5psi, they should be closer than that. As far as the customer service goes, I wouldnt get my kit from Wyatt since I have heard it is damn near impossible to get in touch with him. There are other places that you can get the kit from. Also if you take care of your car/kit I really dont forsee too many problems as far as the absolute need for customer service. If you get the wrong part or need help with the installation that is understandable, but in the long run I dont think it is too crucial. Look at the stock turbo guys for instance, if something goes wrong with their cars they do not contact the manufacturer unless it is an actual defect with the part.

Im not real partial either way...but, there a few things in the HRC kit that i would replace right away: the crap Cartech FPR, their fuel-cut defencer, and their downpipe idea. Star kit has better pieces in these areas, by far if you ask me. and the Star manifold on my car bolted right up, no fitment issues, but that seems to be the exception and not the rule according to others experiences. Way i see it is, if you are worried about tech issues, dont have a GREAT working knowledge of turbo systems(being able to trouble shoot stuff easily) or have a hookup at a local shop that does, go wit hthe HRC kit, cause Bill and his staff have an impeccable reputation for standing behind their customers and products, but be ready to shell out an additional 200 or so bucks after the kit price to buy a Vortech FMU and Missing Link fuel cut-defencer. if you know your stuff about turbos and wouldnt be calling HRC for help even if a maintenance problem did arise(like me), the Star kit will be good for ya. really up to you, Star has more top end power, Hahn spools about 500rpm quicker. your decision. Oh yeah, DONT try and get a STAR kit for turbogs.com unless you wanna wait forever, try www.importparts.com, always had good experiences with them.

i cant access importparts.com, but you can also get the kit from Overboost.com, Ive bought from them before and they are really good. On top of that, you can join their little club and get 5% off of whatever you buy for 1yr. So you basically pay 13.99 for a $90 discount.
