ok I have a 99 GS and i have an OBX racing muffler on it at the moment and it is way to loud all the time and if you use the silencer it loses alot of power  . no my question is i want to get a flowmaster 60 series muffler and i saw a catback they have but they said that it only fits 97 and 98 is there a difference in there exhaust route or something i mean WTF so before i go and buy just the muffler and have it piped it would just be easier to get the catback.

P.S. has anyone used a OBXR high flow cat con does it make it alot nosier? not that i mind noise but i take long trios to NY monthly and they are 4-5 hours long so it gives you a headache which is why im switching to this flowmaster with "delta flow" and one last thing (yes it is long thanks for putting up with me so far) has anyone used the flowmaster before what did you think? :dsm: :)

too loud???

same flow route, should fit. i dunno why they leave the 99 out on some things, ive seen it before on other parts.

Put out the money and go full cat-back with a greddy, there exhausts do not soound like a weed wacker like the cheep mufflers, go with quality the first time and never worry again, you will learn this over time, I did with my old 98 GS. Go with the EVOLUTION exhaust, sounds great, not loud, and looks good.

you could do that for $600 or you could go to a local muffler shop and have a custom cat back made with a magnaflow muffler for $325. depends on how much money you have. i was gonna get the evo exaust, but the custom one was about half the price and sounds great. get 2.5" piping, thats what i got.

did you try to find one used, i sold one for $300.00 shipped to AZ a long time ago, you can do what you want does not matter to me, i have heard the muffler type of exhaust systems, i think they sound like crap that is where I stand. I dont want to make this into an argument, i was just throwing down my opinion, good lusk with everything then, and make sure you get mandrel belt :thumb:

that was a pretty generic and ignorant statement. your concluding that all custom set ups with mufflers welded on the end sound like crap? you could weld a N1 muffler on the back, wouldnt it sound the exact same as the N1 exaust kit?

I have the EVO and would recommend it over custom piping i have buddys who run custom exhausts and they get that weedwacker sound in high rpms my evo wont crackle from 1k-7k and thats with no cat and header its realy deep and rumbles i would never change my exhaust setup its as good as this car could possibly sound especially with all my headwork. :dsm:

ya but to save $350, i can take the crackles for the first 5 minutes it runs until it warms up, then the crackles go away

You could also try a Tsudo N1 Extreme, they usually go for about 300-350 w/shipping on ebay. I got one for mine and it sounds great, no crackeling, and no weedwacker sound. (its essentially an apexi N1 redone)

OVERPRICED!

same results for 1/2 the price, going custom makes sense to me. the only thing you dont get is the name Greddy on it... which is what you pay that extra $300 for!

The name on it?

ur crazy.... ull never have the same exhaust sound with mandrel piping or w\e ur gonna do , dont be dumb... just like all the people i see try and then end up saying dam man i just wasted $300 on a exhaust that sounds like farts and rice that annoys cops and i get pulled over the time... ....... i should of just saved up 200 more and get a greddy evo

im telling you from 1000 to 3000 its so quiet .... then after 5000 rpms all hell breaks loose....

if your saying just cuz its a name .... okay i need a new clutch... hmmm let me go on ebay and buy a stage 3 clutch... which will prob slip all the time and i guarantee a stage 1 clutchmasters clutch is better then that crap...... believe me thats why there are brand names

Im well aware of how a name brand becomes a name brand, but when name brands start selling alot, and are known for a good product, they sometimes jack the price up, partly for the good product, and partly for the name on it. you can go to some grocery stores and buy non name brand items that are made by the name brand companys, just labeled by the stores, and there alot cheaper.

my exauste sounds nice, always get compliments. ive never been pulled over, and never once thought "damn i wish i would have saved up and gotten the greddy". actually i think, "damn, i feel sorry for those suckers who spent $500+ on an exauste that sounds just as good as mine". mine is loud from 1k- 3.5k rpms, just where i drive it the most, so i actually get to hear what i payed for all the time, not just when im pushing it. and its not what im gonna do, its what ive done :thumb:

GS, Im glad you could understand all that. I was going to reply, but I wouldve needed a translator first.

Niiice.

I agree that custom is the way to go. Anyone who has done some basic research into exhaust system requirements can figure out that you don't need carbon fiber titanium blazed tip, laser welded robo super bionic JDM spec pirate type arrrr rear section. $300 can get you a 4-2-1 ceramic coated header, straight 2.5"ID mandrel bent header-back, glass pack resonator, and simple generic muffler which will perform every bit as good as anything with a big name on it and sound just as sweet, if not sweeter due to the subtle differences in exhaust note at varying engine outputs. Why spend $500 for a top of the line aftermarket exhaust on your average, slowimo 2GNT. Because that do0d in your PE class has one. That's why. :p Shit. For $500, I could do all I mentioned above, and install a cut out to bypass the muffler all together for the track or to scare some frosted hair, upside-down visor-wearing kid and his girlfriend at the light. LOL

LOL!!!

well im glad im not the only one that sees it that way :thumb:

I hate to say it but i use to have custom pipes and wasnt satisfied so i got the greddy evo and i wouldnt go back. I respect everyone wanting to save a buck but if i bought a new car and started over i would buy the greddy again.

my muffler was 2 loud so i cut some holes and put 2nd one on, half the exhaust in each muffler, makes it very smooth sounding.

i guess its all a matter of opinion. im very happy with mine, and i cant really see how the sound could get any better, so i cant justify spending $500+ for something that does and sounds the same as mine. ive heard the evo, a friend of mine with a WRX has it at my school, i like it but it didnt blow me away or anything, i like it loud, and it was a little too quiet for me

hey this is for all u n/t's out there....stop wasting ur money on these "performence" cat-back" exhausts.....they are WAY overpriced and u dont feel much out of it....get a 2g GST echaust and that will give u great gains without spending over $120....i got mine for 80 beans and then got a strait pipe to replace the cat...or u could just get a high-flow cat....but this will be the best thing youve done to ur car

:talon:

but then you still sound like a stock exaust. i like the loudness of mine. ill pay the $325 for the performance and the loudness. plus it makes you look like a turbo car which you are definatly gonna be slower then. i wanna make mine a sleeper, not one that looks faster than it is :thumb:

ok i have decided to stay with the obx muffler but im going to get piping done from the cat back which diameter is best i want more power but i don't want to lose alot of low end. i was also thinking about a resonator what do you guys think? i also want to get the muffler angled like the N1 anyone got some pictures? thanks a bunch

angled muffler? :thumbdown sorry im definatly not a fan of it. but, if you like it then go ahead and do it. go with 2.5" piping, thats what i did. i have no experience with a resonator, but i have heard nuthing but good things about there effect on the sound.
