Hey guys,

I just purchase a 94 eclipse 1.8 for $50, however the motor is trashed, (froze rod bearing). Ive got the motor out and torn down, and now im stuck on what I want to do. Im not looking for the fastest car on earth, But I do think it would be nice to turbo the car or perhaps use nitrous.

Just looking for suggestions on what I should do next...

I am competent enough to rebuild the engine, but im having problems finding any good parts. And please Don't say fix it and buy a turbo, I don't feel like paying turbo insurance. Any help or Ideas would be apprectiated.

I have heard about that guy, sounds like a damn good idea to me, but im not sure of what other equipment I would need to get it up and running, if anyone has any ideas regarding that I would appreciate it !

Run a search in the MachV boards for his name and he pretty much explains everything you need. He hasn't got it up and running yet, but he's close.

If in fact you were to put the Turbo onto our engines... What would you do about the computer? How would you control that?

Thanx for the info, I have taken a look at those forums and the turbo setup looks pretty straight forward. I was planning on using a s-afc, stock intercooler and piping, and turbo automatic injectors. Only problem now is finding that damn g32b turbo exhaust manifold. Anyways the setup doesn't look that hard, and im guessing for around a grand I could reproduce that setup. Hopefully I will get lucky on parts and maybe skim by paying a little less. if anyone has any ideas on where I could buy the manifold it would be great, otherwise I'll just have to start digging. Thanks again.

Junkyard would be the best place. Since it's off the old turbo mirage/colt :D

btw let me know how well the nitrous setup you are planning on using works. that may be a road I go down.

What shot are you planning on running? I was hoping with my fresh rebuild (w/ sealed power rings and bearings, new rods and crank) I would be able to run around a 75 shot, anyways keep me posted and let me know your times!

I'll start a new thread about it when it's in and running. I need to repair some engine stuff so I don't blow the motor first spray. I'm just waiting on a few more parts (blow down tube and guage adaptor). I'll be running the 45 shot for some extra kick. It may be a little while before the juice goes in, depending on how motivated I am to getting the engine running good.

Yeah, I know Kalani, but I agree with Kalani to keep his mods in secret, because of people trying to be phony's, and wanting to be like him. That is what keeps his mods in secret. Now I am doing the same thing, I am turboing my 2 1.8's. Just recently I bought a JDM G37B Engine for my 1990 Mitsubishi Eclipse, and the rebuilt one I decided to put on hold, or build it for someone who just needs a new rebuilt engine. Now I also have found that turboing a 1.8 is very stressful, and you must first understand that it won't happen over night, you must learn the things about engines, such as compression ratios, and crank strengths. I will tell you how to turbo if you get the parts and get ready for it, but I won't tell you anything more until you can prove to me that you know how to modificate your effeciently. I am sick of dealing with newbies that have no idea about there cars. Your rebuild is a good plan, but it takes lots of work to rebuild a 1.8. First lets make sure you do things right, here are some tips/things to help you through the process.

*Only do work you know you can do yourself.
This means that I know you won't hone the cylinders straight, so make sure you take it to a machine ship. Now if you have a grinder, you can resurface your block and cylinder head.

The things I would make sure you do also is KEEP ALL YOUR BOLTS AND NUTS IN BAGS TELLING THEM WHERE THEY GO. YOu will always lose them if you don't, like I did. It sucks. Trust me, you want to know where they are at all times, you won't remember.

The things that must be done by a machine shop:

Valve Job
Installing Valve Guides and such, which also is a valve job.
Honing your Block
Line Bore the block
Steam clean the block
Tank and Steam clean your cylinder head
Turning of the crank

The parts you will have to buy are these:

Head Gasket Set
Conversion Gasket Set
10mm oversized rod/main bearings
Piston Rings [not cheap ones, they break]
Oil Pump
Water Pump
Thermostat
Clutch Set
All new hoses

The other stuff you'll need is

Engine Assembly lube
OEM Gasket Maker
High Temp Sealent.
Piston Ring COmpressor
Light sand paper
Breaker Bar
Torque Wrench

My easiest and best advise is, don't do this unless you want to. I bought my JDM motor for 580 dollars, and only spent 117 on Water pump, Thermostat, New hoses, Synthetic oil, Oil filter, Intake manifold Gasket, Exhaust manifold gasket, Gear Oil, Coolant, and the other things that are located on your piece of paper. You will have to switch rocker arm assembly and cam since they aren't the same on the JDM engine. I also would say you make sure you buy high temp sealt and OEM gasket maker to make sure you gaskets are sealed. If you have any JDM installment questions, email me at: [email protected]

I have done JDM installments for 2.0 DOHC NT, and 1.8 SOHC NT. ;)

Thanx for your reply man, your the one ive been hoping to hear from, check your email :thumb:
