Are automatics really alot slower than manuals? I don't really race much but I've beaten some hondas, mustangs, camaros and etc that were almost all manuals. And those new mustangs are suppose to have 190hp. So if my car is slower period plus its an auto, why did I win? All I hear all the time is I'm wasting my time fixing up my auto because no matter what it'll still be slow because its auto. PLEASE HELP

well I own an automatic and yea its slower but I also dont feel like im wasting my time with it because all I have is exhaust and intake and I can feel a little bit of a difference but once I save up for my NX nitrous system (it will keep me happy until I get enough money for a turbo) I know that ill have a huge difference and be able to kill a few manuals, so basicly what I'm trying to say is just cause you have an auto doesnt mean you'll always be as slow as a stock auto, Im also looking into a Level10 tranny kit to help beef up my automatic.

i have an automatic to. i have the 2.0L twin cam engine. i have beaten a lot of cavaliers a few civics and one mustang. all i have for my car so far is a black double stack aluminum wing. i knowthe wing doesn't get me any faster but i like the way it looks. its the best looking wing on the 1g dsm's. i am buying a 3A racing exhaust next week and a K&N cold air intake. i don't feel i am wasting my time either. when i race i just hit the power button and drop it it low and go.. if u put the car in low and then when it about redlines just shift up or let it go cuz it will shift itsself in low.

Yeah, I had a 1996 Eclipse GS with an automatic transmission. Then I took out the transmission and swapped it for a manual transmission. My car was a good second quicker in the quarter mile.

I have an auto 97 n/a.But that has'nt stopped me from doing modifications.I've already put in a Magnaflow catback exhaust and K&N.Soon I'll be installind an AEM cold-air induction system and a Greddy header.Computer upgrades are after that, then underdrive pullies, cams, downpipe, etc.A lot of people give me smack about an Automatic GS but I'm happy with it and that's all that counts.I can stiil give manual GSs a run for their money and with my future mods, blow their doors off.Goal:Be able to run with a GST or GSX.:dsm:

Hey
Dont feel bad, yes Im a new Mitsu driver and really bad behind a stick so i got an automatic, yes I do wish i had the time to learn a stick better and eventually i will. Anyway I do feel the sting of being smacked around with my friends who all drive sticks and beat the ever living crap outta me but I do care, well to finish this up just wanted to say i feel for you brother.:D

I have no problem when I run against stick drivers. Last summer I was able to beat some guy driving a 98 cobra with a blown 16G killer turbo. It all depends on how good of a driver you are and if your cars are somewhat matched. You can have the best driver in the world driving a civic and and idiot driving a viper and the viper driver will win because of the massive power difference. I am going to swap though from auto to stick tranny soon because I'm going to be pushing alot more power than I had before my car went into the shop.

I feel it man...I have an automatic too, and I always get made fun of for it. It's cool, cause being a kid, I can usually reply to my peers with this statement, "My car may be a N/T auto., but at least I HAVE a car." That's usually the best line for me. Anyways, I don't feel it's a waste of time to modify an auto. I raced my neibor who has a 97 GS, 5-speed, and, while I was beaten off the line, we ran neck and neck at WOT. There are plenty of things to be done in an auto. I think of it as a luxury, sure, I'd love to drive stick, but I mean come on, if it's gonna do it for me... ;)

just to give you guys an idea of how much slower an auto is compared to a manual trannied car I ran a 16.3 with nothing but an exhaust compared to my buddy with a CAI, headers and exhaust in an auto who ran a 17.5

what about that F-1 style shift kit from L10 is that any good
bet you could whoop some ass with that
