ok i got a 98 eagle talon 420a 5speed non turbo and here lately i've noticed when idling either just after starting or like at a stop light my car will bogg down and hop around between 200rpm and 600rpms until it dies but it will start back up just fine but every time i stop somewhere and the car idles for more than a min. it dose this and also i have been getting horrid gas mileage since this has been going on i've changed my plugs, wires, air filter, catilitic converter and got the rest of the exhaust sealed up and the problem is still their can someone please help me im at a loss of what it could be!!??!!

Well try it, it will work I promise, the Code list can be found in that link. It works on Every car I have had with a Chrysler powertrain, the ones with digital odometers even print out the code numbers instead of flashing them out, its pretty handy.

Like i said im new at DSM, and just saying, in the haynes manual it tells you it only works in the 95 & under. I admit I havent tested it but my haynes manual hasn't lied to me yet and Mr. grothe3297venge if you have a problem with me or my threads you can send me a PM, otherwise I'd appriciate it if you did not comment on anything of mine thank you.

And btw everyone, I've never reffered to myself as a DSMer, like I've said numerous times I'm new to them.

Lol no problems, stated you should of checked the codes and you went a different route and keep asking "you think this will solve it", all could of been solved if you (mr 2ndgen420) would of just checked them as I was saying but alright, do as you will

Ok sir, i will go try it. And i hope it dose work, but i have a haynes manual, so i have the codes.

Quote: from the haynes manual: Generic trouble codes on 1997 and eariler models can be accessed using the ignition key method, but it is necessary to use a SCAN tool to read and interpret manufacturer-specific trouble codes (or any trouble codes on 1998 and later models). un QUOTE. So like i said you cant do the key trick on my car a 1998 eagle talon, i even tried to make sure.

I had never heard of this until now, All my cars have been '97s and they have all done it. After some reading it seems some SBEC modules from '98 - '99 did not have this function. Though my sisters '98 neon does have this function so I don't know what to believe now =P

I have a 98 and tryed it, it did not work. Also read my haynes manual and it stated it will only work in 97 & under, scan tool must be used on 98 & up.

Also, I forgot to get a new TB gasket but i got one today and im going to change the TB, and IAC,TPS in about thirty mins.

Just changed the TB, IAC, TPS new gaskets and everything going to drive and see what happens I'll let you guys know, the moment i get back.

Well i changed the whole TB set up, and so far she's running like new. Drove her about 50 miles let her get nice and hot stopped and listened, for the idle change and nothing! Also I did the carb cleaner, vac check and every hose I tryed it on no leaks, but I'm not 100% sure i hit every vacc, hose just the one's I know are for sure. But when I pulled the old TB off, man the inside of the intake main. was extremly dirty I sprayed it with carb cleaner, but the hole in the intake for the EGR pipe hook up was all most clogged with carbon deposits I cleaned it best i could, and will be replacing the EGR%tubing for it next! any feedback or questions or comments please feel free to leave i want/need input!

Thank you, 2ndgen420

Yeah, the old TB,IAC,TPS was extremly dirty, and the hole in the intake for the EGR pipe was almost completely clogged so EGR&piping will be changed next!
