Hello, I am another guy that fell in love with the DSM world and I bought my first turbo car.

All i was told about it was that it was going to be setup as a "race car" and battery was relocated in the hatch, fully adjustable suspension, full 3"exhaust, racing steering wheel, and 17' wheels. (brand new tires)

95 eclipse gsx 95k miles.
I bought it from a guy hard on money and all he told me is that someone told him that his engine was "crank walked". Anyways.. i bought it for $600 and hauled it back home. I arrived home, started it up... it ran rough... but still was running. I found that the hose for the BOV was pushing the MAF sensor to where it was slightly disconnected. and the BOV that was on it had blown the threading out.

So i replaced the BOV with a Greddy BOV (bought off a friend for $40). and just turned the MAF 180 degrees. It starts right up and runs perfect... :thumb:

A week later after driving it, i was going about 135mph for my first test to push it some and what i think happened... was a rod knocking very loud. I am not sure what i have done, but i am new to this and have researched videos of rods knocking and it sounds like that.

Can anyone give me a rundown of what i should do now??? i have recently bought a 6bolt engine for what i wanted to build on to later... what should i do with the 2g engine??? and where should i begin with the 6bolt??? Thank you.

ok, thank you. i will keep this thread up to date with what else goes wrong... LOL

Also, does it really matter if FMIC is a ebay one???

Get one from one of the vr speed factory vendors, BEST bang for your buck. Short route for a quick spool, the air has less piping to travel through. Also it's a great quality product with a warranty through a trusted name vendor, plus you're helping the DSM community compared to some ebay random

hmmm, i like that monster green. LOL... and i was looking at that FMIC from vr speed factory.. that will ###### be my purchase when the time comes. :)

yeah id def go with the VRSF FMIC kit, ive herd nothing but great things about it. also yes u can use the old valve cover fine.(the UNcracked one!) looks like your gunna start having some fun with her here pretty soon.. as far as injectors, i would buy dsmlink and 1000cc injectors, what are your plans for the turbo etc..

If you dont have something to tune with and ## turbo is stock or 16g not sure what ## running but if its close to that then the highest u should go is prly 560cc..

a buddy is trying to talk me into getting a nice ball bearing turbo from turbonetics... but idk which one to get.. im trying to make about 450awhp when im finished.

If I am building a street/daily driver gsx, should i go with a bigger turbo? or try and stay with a smaller turbo for faster spooling?

I bet there is chunks of bearing in the oil pan of that 7 bolt... I am so glad mine hasn't had that issue. I have pampered it though and I'm only using a 395 ft/lb pressure plate. When it comes time to replace it though, 4g64 bottom end is the way to go. For the money though, it looks like you got a good deal.

...and those 1000cc injectors COULD hurt...... If someone throws them at you. :D

Someone told me that i have aftermarket cams on the first picture i have of my 1g head. Can anyone tell me if they are stock or not by just looking at the picture??? i will check in person this weekend.

Jeez... Ok eather go to a well know mechanic or performance shop or find someone in your local area. I don't have a jet plane so I can't come look. Please eather pull it all out and take "good pics" or post some number or makings on the parts you want to know about. Probably mostly stock just put it together and drive it.. I swear this title for thread is not my first actual project build, it is help me with my first project build. Do some research man, theres ton of info out there.

full version DSM Link v3 from a 95 awd under cleveland ohio auto parts craigslist for $600, I'd buy it considering its 5 min from my house but I'm currently broke :notgood:

happen to come with eprom ecu also??? :D

For $600 I would sure hope it comes with the ECU.

As for turbo, I would stay away from Turbonetics. Honestly, you should stick with close to stock size until you get the supporting mods installed and a bit of a grasp on tuning.

I am finally at it again. Had a few life problems going on, but now i am back at it. I decided to go with a color scheme that another dsm guy suggested.

Sorry for my previous post was a bad day that day. It's coming along good. Did you did any info on how or what u working with on your car? need any help don't hesitate to ask but there are alot of write ups for what you need.

It's ok. I am doing the swap today, but I had chipped the crankshaft timing gear on my 6 bolt motor. Would the gear off my 7 bolt motor work fine and still keep "in time"?

Good looking engine. Take your time and triple check everything.
Not sure about the crank sprocket. Im sure someone will chime in. You might call one of the parts vendors and ask, alot of times they know whats up. Or find out how many teeth are on a 6bolt and 7bolt, thatd tell ya right there.

I solved the gear problem, but now i ran into another problem. I have the 2g water housing and a 1g housing. i am using the 1g head, so that means i will use the 1g thermostat housing. &ut i only have the piping for the 2g housing. Can i use that piping for the 1g??? I will post a pic of the housing and the 2g pipe going to it. I am just wondering where i can get the piping for the 1g water housing that goes from the water pump to the thermostat housing?

Here is a few pictures of what I am working with, I am pretty sure i need a new a 1g pipe. If anyone can post pictures of a 6bolt swap with the manifold off, I would appreciate it.

I think i found a 1g water pipe and exhaust manifold studs. I am thinking about getting a 14b turbo just to replace my turbo off the 7bolt. Will i need the J pipe to do that? I never got a turbo with this 6 bolt.

I am currently buying a FMIC for the eclipse, but I am also wondering if it is worth paying $100 for a new godspeed 20g turbo??? It is still new in the box. Maybe i could use it even though I am really wanting faster spool time? Of course, I would need bigger injectors, but what else would i need to upgrade?

Already have the following:

FMIC
3" GM MAF
Walbro 255 LPF fuel pump

I am still reading up on this. I might just buy it and eventually resell it for a little profit. Thank you.

You seem to be moving along quite well with your project. But if you do a little research you can find answers to many of your questions. Good luck with the build.

I am in need of a 1g turbo water pipe to finish my 6 bolt swap. I have waited on one i have purchased for roughly 2 weeks and have yet to get any sort of response or tracking number. If anyone has a one laying around please let me know. I need it within this week.
