So I found a guy in Miami that sells complete 5 speed swaps for 1k flat... and about 150 for shipping. It comes with everything needed, and mine would be coming off a donor car with about 110k miles. What do you guys think? I've had my eye open for FWD tranny's around here and there aren't that easy to come by, and when you do they aren't cheap. I'm mainly concerned about the miles I guess and how well the tranny/clutch will hold up.

Either way I can't fuggin wait for this 5 speed. :hellyeah:

i can't tell you if the complete M/T swap setup your getting is worth $1000 for obvious reasons... i can tell you that i did the AWD swap when i did my M/T swap as well and for the OEM parts i paid $2000 for everything. if you plan on tracking your car the condition of the clutch/flywheel shouldn't be of concern since heres your chance to put in an ACT 2600 and a lightened flywheel.
first things first don't let him get by with EVERYTHING YOU NEED FOR A M/T SWAP as a list. make the guy send you a LIST of line items because i guarantee youll find out the hardway it wasn't everything when you can't get your starter to bolt up right because he didn't send you the M/T spacer or different flywheel bolts etc. etc. etc. get an itemized list from the seller and post it up on this thread... ill keep an eye out for it and we'll see if its "everything" for $1k.

Thank you, I'll be sure to keep you updated.

Ok so he sent me the list and here is what it is:

manual transmission , clutch , 7 bolt pressure plate, engine plate , slave cylinder, master cylinder, clutch pedal, shifter linkage , shifter , shifter boot , shifter knob.

Which seems short new front axles, clutch line, and a motor mount?
I also read you need a new starter, is that true?

flywheel bolts, flywheel, clutch line (just get a FULL SS), throw out bearing, starter, motor mounts, vehicle speed sensor (VSS), and front axles.
sorry it took so long to respond, i didn't see your post of the parts until today because for some reason the website didn't let me know! we're good now, sorry about the wait.
it sucks he's sending you the stock clutch/pressure plate (there is no 7 bolt pressure plate btw, its the flywheel that changes) but hey, atleast you'll have the M/T like you want.

clean96GST: Bump harder bro.

$1,000 for a NOT complete M/T swap? That's cool. Wish I had money to blow like that. If I had 1k, I definitely would not be blowing it on a 5 speed.

I bet money there is a thread somewhere stating all the needed parts to do a COMPLETE M/T swap. I only say that because people swap all the time. Most likely to find swap threads are as follows:

1. Turbo swap
2. Bumper conversion swap
3. Engine swap
4. Tranny swap

But regardless, the trnsmission threads are there and so is the search button.

I would opted for a rebuilt tranny over swapping one. Auto's are consistent and beastly with a big laggy turbo.

Autos are boring!! Learn how to drive a 5speed, and it will be just as consistent and beastly!!!

Thats also different.

i didn't forget, it was in the list of "included" parts thats all! ;)

... i can't install CAPS on my work computer (damn navy) but once i get home and get on my laptop i can get you part numbers for everything you'll need OEM from the dealership. just let me know.

Yeah sorry I didn't just let it die and never get the answer to my question, you're right. And flame harder bro, it's my money, my car, my choice. Obviously I'm not paying 1k for the part list he sent me, I only came here to find out if 1k for an actual complete swap would of been good, not to hear about what you'd be doing "If I had 1k" .
KTHXBAI

Thank you, and no worries about the long respond, at least I got one:hellyeah:
But anyway I'm going to tell him if he throws in the rest of the parts to make it "complete" then I might be interested. I'm also probly going to got with and XTD stage 4 clutch, I know it's complete overkill right now but it will come in handy when I get a new turbo and start making some power. Yeah it's from ebay but I haven't heard one negative thing about the unsprung ones, what do you think?

i can't say ive heard ANYTHING about an ebay clutch, so i cant say ive heard anything negative about them either :D no feedback is good feedback if people are buying them i suppose? if your wanting some opinions about that ebay clutch id start a new thread on it if you can't find it after some searching.

I know a few people with other makes (non-dsm's) that have used XTD clutches with great success.

So this was his reply to me giving him the real complete list "you need to replace only the tip of the axle (the part that fits into the transmission ) not the complete axles and i suggest to put a new trow out bearing , thats only a 28buck piece that if it fails you have to pull the transmission out to replace"

What do you guys think?

he is correct you do only need the inner part of the axle but why would you buy an new inner and not replace the whole thing? thats retarded. i think that for what your getting $1000 seems fair IF the tranny is rebuilt. but also expect to spend another $1000 on odds and ends though, don't budget for $1000 cause you won't be driving down the road as a M/T with just the cost of the parts. your gonna need to order flywheel bolts, throw out bearing, clutch, flywheel, axles etc. its gonna add up so budget for it.

:dsm:

Well where would you guys that think this is a bad deal recommend I get a tranny? Every used one I see on CL or Ebay is >500. I might be selling it after this summer for a AWD one so I kind of want to get this done soon.
