Evo III 16g Turbo

Im Looking into ordering this turbo that i have heard sooooo much about! I have read nothing but great things about it. The only question i have right now is, with my whole exhaust set up im still without a downpipe. The 16g turbo wont be in my pocession for a little while now since my car still has a few necessites that have to be taken care of before more exstensive mods. So, to the point, i want to get a downpipe for my 14b to complete the exhaust but im worried i will have to get another downpipe when i get the 16g if it needs a different size. Doed anyone know if the downpipe for the 14b will fit a 16g? Let me know! THanks people!

The o2 housing matters not the turbo. Get an evo O2 housing right off the bat, or get a MR tubular one. Then buy your downpipe for the housing, not the turbo.

The Megan Racing and stockers are a different size output then the evo.

Anyone have a picture of what the o2 housing looks like? Whenever i hear o2 housing i just think of the o2 sensor.

The o2 housing...is where the o2 sensor is plugged in at. It is plain as day to see when the hood is opened. It is on the exhaust side of the turbo. The tube between the turbo and downpipe.

See the oil dipstick, the o2 housing is right there to the left of it. (This is a pic of a 1st gen btw).

To keep yourself from having to re-purchase parts, you need to have a plan of what you want your final product to be. It's not a good idea to just piece some parts togethor if you don't even know what the goals are.

I've really been debating whether or not to say this and I will probably sound like a jerk and I am truly sorry about it. I just really want to help you.
If questions like this are being asked, in my honest opinion, you should hold off on buying parts until you have a better grasp on what the parts functions are.

The stock o2 housing is very constrictive because of its small diameter. The flange that comes off of the stock o2 housing is only so big and therefore only certain downpipes can be bolted up to it. Different o2 housings will allow for differnt sized downpipes to be bolted up. The evoIII o2 housing is a good choice that will also allow for larger downpipes.

Thanks! I've seen that before. Now im certain what it is. So i get the downpipe that fits the o2 housing. Also on this vfaq site Visual Frequently Answered Questions - Home Page and click "turbo" then click "14b-16g swap" it says nothing about replacing the stock o2 housing. So im guessing to go ahead and just get the downpipe since the stock o2 housing is never messed with or replaced but only recomended to replace the gasket. Any other thoughts on that?

When I bought an e-bay O2 housing I had to drill out the holes because they were off a little, but not bad for the price.

That was just a turbo swap VFAQ, but the DP and O2 housing could also be done while your doing that, so go ahead and find a down pipe too.

EVOIII 16g is a great turbo. If you can get a good tubular 02 housing, that's a good option as you can use any commonly available downpipe and they are reasonably inexpensive. The EVOIII 02 housing will require a dedicated downpipe made specifically for the slightly different exit angle, but you can port that housing massively. I run a very heavily ported 2g 02 housing and it works just fine, makes big power, and controls boost reasonably well.

I use my 14b O2 housing on my big 16g too. I ported the crap out of it to match my ported turbo and my homemade 3"downpipe. It works flawlessly, and I have no boost control problems.

You will want to get the coolant pipes and larger banjo bolts for your 16g. The 14b ones dont fit.

Oh yeah check this out! DSM EVO III o2 Housing - 1G DSM o2 Housings - 1G 90-94 - Exhaust - DSMparts.com that is the housing ill most likely buy. That is my favorite DSM parts website along with MachV Motorsports. Does the regular 2g performance downpipe bolt right up to it? Thats my only concern.

Ok obviously i need to read more. It states in the description of the EVO III housing that SOME downpipes require minor modifications. So i guess Ill just get a downpipe and hope i get lucky. If not do some adjusting. Thats all there is that i can do i guess. With the EVO III housing. But like PBOGLIO i could port my stock O2 housing, but i know absolutley nobody that can port stuff. If i did i would have already had my manifold ported. Anyone know any local shops that do port jobs?

oh no no no no. Thanks for the concern though . Im definatly getting a bigger fuel pump and possibly injectors. But fuel pump mainly. Our little stock ones can only do so much (tear)

If you want to save some cash you could go out to Lowes, Big Lots, Home Depot or Harbor Freight Tools and pick up a corded dremel and some carbide tips and just go to friggen town. Or you could send your parts to a company like slowboy or something and I think they pffer some porting services.
