No SMIM is worth $1200. DVDTFAB makes very nice stuff but is not priced to compete in my eyes. You can pick up a Magnus race or JMF race smim for under 1k and get the same if not better performance. It does look nice and I don't doubt it will work but $1200 is def to much.

If you know the aspects of fluid and pulse flow dynamics, and understand how with the plenum shaped as it is, weld cracking is nearly impossible, then you will see the value in the manifold.

It was well worth the investment in my eyes.

Nice...how did you get the coil mounted on the firewall?

It was a 1g coil bracket that I've modified to fit 2g coils, and be able to mount to a vertical surface.

I do and so do magnus and AMS and JMF who make and sell manifolds and don't charge $1200 ;)

That's all that matters for YOUR car

Have tests been done with this manifold yet??

If not id have to agree with Slippi84, no manifold is worth that much especially if tests havent been done... at minimum with a Dyno...

Although ive been reading up and the design does look promising, if indeed it outflows alot of other SMIMs, then i wouldnt mind picking one up :thumb:

To the OP, what kind of SMIM did you have before this?

the benefit is not having 20 billion vacuum lines running to your plenum. You have one large vacuum / boost line running between the plenum / block, and you can then run all your vacuum lines from the block. Just easier than reaching under your plenum every time you need to change out a hose.

Yup it is a lot better. I have it on my JHR ITB smim and they are all SS lines so I don't worry about leaks either.

The "show me proof" addage applies to both sides of the arguement: Does this one perform as well as which manifold from magnus?

One manifold can produce much better results than another. The magnus intake manifold is about 17% less ($1000) than this DVDT unit. The ams unit is about $300 less. The jmf race manifold costs $812. The question is whether the difference in results merrits the difference in cost, whether $200 or $400.

Let's leave the speculation behind. And ask more "how does it perform?"

A lot of dough for the DSM market, sure. It's all relative though. Once you step out of the DSM world, all performance parts prices go way up.

Very true Chris but this is a dsm page...you know you started it ;)

As to the how does this manifold compare to the Magnus(race manifold which is 900 not 1000)magnus race manifold has been proven as several members have them on already. So that being said $300 difference is a lot more money especially from a company with all do respect to dvdfab has a reputation for not having the best welds.:(

The magnus race manifold, nor the $1000 cast magnus manifold, has been proven to perform the same as this manifold or not the same is this manifold. Why not wait until it has been proven? Or prove it yourself? ;) Any more than this simply would be opinion. Unless you can give some clear fluid dynamics theory based on the dimensions of both manifolds?. . .

Matt I understand but there is no way that this thing is $300 better than the magnus and AMS units. Not to say it can't outperform them because that would be speculation but for another $300 for most people you would have to see 20-30whp difference and I'm sorry I don't see that happening.

Magnus and AMS both have dyno sheets of their manifolds up on their pages which show that they dyno prove their performance show me some dyno's from this manifold and then it will be worth even talking about them in the same light.

Sheetmetal Intake Manifolds

Magnus V5 Cast Aluminum EVO Intake Manifold
Over 10 years ago, Magnus Motorsports released its first Sheet Metal Intake Manifold into the market place and it quickly became the standard within the Mitsubishi Racing community. After almost 2 years in development, we would like to introduce you to the next big thing. The Magnus Motorsports V5 Cast Aluminum EVO Intake Manifold.

We designed this one from a fresh sheet of paper. Out of over a dozen prototypes, endless testing and perfecting, the Magnus Cast Intake Manifold was born. We applied our years of experience from crafting thousands of sheet metal intakes and once again have raised the bar for power and quick response. By applying a unique design and a massive 5L plenum, this cast manifold means big power and big power sooner!

Cast in A356 Aluminum with a wall thickness of 3/16"; the Plenum shape features a varying contoured tapered profile at a volume of 5 liters. The runners themselves are completely revolutionary in their design; featuring an integrated velocity stack that gradually transitions into the head port profile. It was designed entirely against the shape of the original cylinder head port taking advantage the 10° port entry of the EVO head maintaining un-interrupted laminar flow. The Magnus Cast Intake Manifold will work with throttle bodies from stock right up to 100mm and have seen consistent gains from 30 awHp to 52 awHp with varying setups. Transient boost response is exceptional and it can bolt together in a stock location if required while still being able to be used on a full blown race application.

V5 Cast Aluminum EVO Intake Manifold Features:

* 2 years of research and development
* Cast from A356-T6 Aluminum Alloy
* High quality casting gives a superior surface finish
* Enhanced flow dynamics utilizing CAD Modeling & CFD simulation
* Flowbenched and dynamically tested
* Dynotested proven up to 50 HP
* Ability to flow 100 lb/min (1000 HP) of air at 60PSI while maintaining equal flow distribution
* Can be installed in stock location with clearance for original battery (with adaptor)
* Install kits feature heat barrier gaskets, and adaptor plate to run stock throttle bodies (easily upgradeable). Remote map sensor boss is optional for use with factory ECU's
* Stock turbo gains up to 40HP
* 15 degree entry to the throttle body facilitates intercooler plumbing
* Can be configured for 8 injector setup.
* Fits factory fuel rail or Magnus high flow fuel rails

Magnus Street Intake Manifold

Proven to make over 40 hp at the wheels on Mitsubishi applications!
These manifolds offer excellent spool up characteristics and huge top end power increases over the factory intake manifold. Featuring a velocity stack design, and CNC machined flanges, all of our intakes manifolds are hand made and welded by our craftsmen in-house to ensure the strictest in quality standards.

Weighing in at a scant 6lbs vs. the factory's portly 15 pounds, and mirror polished at no extra charge, you can see why it is the top choice among Mitsubishi tuners, racers and streetcars alike.

The DSM intake manifold has been updated for 2005 featuring .125" material all around, and CNC radiused velocity stacks at no extra charge.

The worlds fastest EVO's and some of the worlds fastest DSM's run on the Magnus sheet metal intake manifold. All of these cars have equipped themselves with the best intake manifold on the market, coincidence? I don't think so. Bang for the buck, there is no better mod out there.

We offer direct Nitrous plumbing and nitrous installation on, Nitrous bungs, Larger throttle body flanges, additional bosses, additional fuel rails for staged injection. We also design custom and one-off intake manifolds for your application.

Magnus Race Intake Manifold
Always at the forefront of Mitsubishi racing and research and development, we are proud to offer our newest version of the RACE intake manifold the Magnus SPL intake.

Through our research and development of the 4G63 engine, higher and higher rev limits have become far more commonplace in the racing world. Ever increasing turbo size and advancing engine design, have allowed us to achieve greater gains by altering the size of the plenum reservoir for Drag racing applications.

Racers the world over have relied on our intake manifolds, and engine packages to take them to the winners circle, and now, with our constantly advancing engine design and High RPM cylinder head packages, we have further fine tuned our intake manifold to accommodate high rpm breathing.

Increasing demands from customers for a custom tailored matching plenum for our world renowned Crate engines had previously been addressed on an individual basis. Now you no longer have custom to order it anymore, Magnus has put all the newest Race Intake Manifolds on the shelf, available for immediate purchase.
