The result of my car at BlackHawkFarms Track day.

First off, Andy sorry to hear about the trouble you had. I was looking forward to seeing another DSM in group 3 that day. I was in the process of "breaking" in a new 6 bolt I just put in this spring. So far so good!! Sorry I didn't come by to say hi. Monday went pretty well as I took second place in BM.

Regarding the wing, I know some guys wouldn't put that on their car, but then again those guys probably don't understand the importance of downforce on the rear of our cars and how that translates into stability through high speed corners. Once you experience the difference you can overlook the "ricey" impression that it may give. This wing was used for creating downforce, and definately not for style points.

After installing the wing I noticed an increase in rear tire temps and also a general increase in grip. I was having trouble previously getting the rears to heat up and scrub properly. I would highly recommend one if you are serious about getting the most grip possible.

Oh, and by the way...I was the one that who bought it off Greg:D

See, there is the answer I was looking for. Thanks. If you noticed that much of a difference it is certainly worth looking into one.

So you were the one.:mad: Just kidding. At least someone who got it is putting it to good use on the track. I'll be looking for one herer in the near future. I like the idea of the tires coming up a bit more in temprature. Rear downforce is never a bad thing.

Well, It looks like I didn't do so great either, somewhere along the line I started pushing coolant out of the overflow can.
It must have been the severe detonation I experienced (it felt like two plug wires fell off) I turned down the boost two pounds and everything ran great.
After Andy left, the idle adjust screw blew out and Tom Hille took me to a local bone yard to get another (thanks Tom).
So yeah, I kinda half blew the head gasket I think. :(

pffff!!! Head gasket, i would MUCH rather replace my HG 5 times than have to rebuild the shortblock (or replace the shortblock).

but nonetheless, thats a bummer. If there is anything i can do to help ya out, let me know. I sure hope you'll have your car ready for the marshfield DSM auto-X, I owe ya a ride!

.....and hopefully not a ride home.

Well, at about 4am this morning the new engine is in the car and running. few small things to do yet before its fully trackable.

Quick version:
6 bolt swap using 2g pistons on 1g rods, and the 2g head. All new ACL Race bearings, all new ARP hardware, new OEM rings. Basically a full fresh motor.

Sweet Andy. When you got your ACL's did you have to get the guides for the main bearings as well being a '97 and higher engine? I am ordering my bearings today to get them to the machine shop so when the heat tank cycle and other things are over they can build the motor for me.

Also, you went with the tri metal race ACLs yeah? Standard since no boring?

my motor is a 6 bolt (90-92) motor. I went with the ACL race bearings as they are a tri-metal. I've heard its not a wise choice to go with aluminum bearings when using a cast rod. And yes, standard size. I used a mint 1g crank and just had it polished up a bit. I'm not a fan on oversized bearings, especially in a 2g where crankwalk is already a common issue.

I see. And I agree with the aluminum aspect of the bearings using cast rods. Keep us updated on the build man. Hopefully my engine will be done by next week.

"Had to be there".

Looks like it worked out for you!

the build is pritty much done (at least I hope). Just little things now.

Needs a different air-to-oil cooler.

setup base timing.

and probably work out any little bugs.

Will your car be ready for the 15th? I did some duct work with my new Miller Spoolmatic....
Trying to end my cooling problems.

aaronmatusz - Thats an intersting idea there man. I take it the bumper will still fit after that is installed yeah? Looks like a kewl design. It will for sure push air to the intercooler :thumb:

Aaron, that looks really good.

Sorry, I wont be attending the shawano lapping day on the 15th, I will be in Wausau for the Gusmacker Basketball games. Will you be attending the marshfield DSM-Auto-X shootout on the 22nd of June (weekend after shawano) Aaron?

Thanks all!
Yes, the bumper should fit over my contraption.

I really hope to make it to the auto-X too.
Is this the address?

10853 County Road H
Marshfield, WI 54449

Yes sir!

If you'd like to come up the saturday before, your more than welcome to crash at my place. Should be a few other DSM guys comming up/over for the night camping and grillin out and stuff.

aaronmatusz - Just make sure the new duct COMPLETELY seals the air in, including where the duct meets the intercooler. As you know, you don't want any of the air to escape around the IC. I was going to do this very same thing this year with my Supra SMIC, but other things have popped up.

Would be interesting to see how flush the new duct mates up with the fender. You might need some weather stripping or something else to really seal that air in. Just a thought.

well, this is also a partial result of the my BlackHawk Farms track day.

new purchase of an 03 evo. 2nd day of ownership i had her on the track:

(new bumper is on the way)

dont worry though, I am not leaving the DSM world. I still have my talon, and the best part is she's all up and running at 100%. In fact, its much fast than the evo, better braking, better handling, just not as comfy.

I envy you so bad, We cant get evo's in canada still.
Only X but thats to much money. 50.000!!!!!! for base model. Thats about 49.000usd.

Did you broke that bumper at the track?

Nice Andy. So you keeping the Talon as the track or what will the deal be? If it handles better, brakes etc. I think you should....."Comfy" ???? Just get you an SUV and be done with it. I wouldnt have any other daily driver right now.

nope, I bought it like that. I already have a stock OEM front bumper on the way.

SUV?? No thanks, i like at least 25mpg. I still have my 96 honda civic to drive to and from work everyday (100miles each day). The talon will remain a track car, at least throughout this year, we'll see what happens next year.

I have a 2003 Mitsubishi Outlander that gets almost 29 mpg. Right around 25 - 27 most of the time. It has a 13 gallon tank and I can go for almost 330 miles (freeway) on a tank. In town it gets around 23 - 25 mpg, still no bad for an SUV. It does very good on fuel actually. But to each their own my friend :thumb:

oh wow, that is good for an SUV. on well, I love the evo, its great for daily driving, and also serves great for those blood-pump'n beat runs down some twisty roads.
