boost leak test results inside...

i did a boost leak test yesterday. At about 1psi the e-ghey greddy style blow off valve that the previous owner had put on, seems to be leaking out of every side and bolt that it has.

I gave more and more psi but it couldnt hold past 5 in the system and was going nuts at the bov. (im going to post a vid later).

Will the boost gauge in my car still be showing about 12psi even though its leaking almost all of it at like 1psi? also, would this cause a vaccum leak at idle and a boost leak under boost?

I don't get what you're trying to say. How do you know you're not holding more than 5psi in your system, yet your guage is showing 12psi? You need 2 people to do a boost leak test... one to watch the BOV while the other is using the compressor. Don't let it go over 20psi or you risk damage to your motor.

Or do you mean that you are still managing to boost 20psi even though your intake won't hold 5psi with a compressor? This is definitely possible since turbos can compensate quite alot. However, at the same time you are overspinning your turbo, and your MAF readings are totally off and you are probably running very rich. If the boost leak is bad enough, you might also be crossing the line in regards to injector duty.

As for the BOV, take it off, apply some gasket sealant, and tighten it down. See if that helps at all.

Leaks at 1psi are pretty bad leaks and probably damaging. Use soapy water at all couplers, coat the BOV, throttle body, injector seals, and intake manifold gasket. It will help you see leaks alot.

the boost leak tester i have has a gauge on it showing how much i am pressurizing (spelling?) it. and yes i used soapy water at all the couplers and only found a tiny leak at the thottlebody to intake mani gasket and then the bov which is leaking out of every hole it has and more.

Fixing boost leaks is a stepwise and pretty involved process. When you fix your leak at the BOV, you'll build 1 more PSI and find another leak. It's a huge pain in the ass, which is why I'm a fan of doing a test every other oil change or so. Maintaining is alot easier than fixing.

I wouldn't boost the car very hard until you get the BOV issue fixed.

You saw how hard it was to pressurize the system to 5psi...Imagine how hard to turbo has to work to maintain 12psi.

sigh...i guess im going to get another knockoff one, but the dejon one. People say that the ebay one holds boost fine, but now that i have personal experience i think its garbage, but i dont want to have to buy another flange or anything. Im hoping the dejon knockoff will hold up good.
