okay so I searched and searched, always finding people who are.telling others to check things by bypassing the linkage cables and shifting directly at the transmission, no one says how though.

which directions would you move each lever to put the trans in neutral? That's my question.

Grab the counter weight "assuming you still have it on there" and move it up and down and your in neutral cant get much more complicated than that.

If you grab it with your hand you can push and pull into gears.you want to find the position where you can push up and down and left and right so it's in the middle try to push the car if it rolls freeley you are in neutral.

Now what about a auto, i don't know what position for a auto but its basically the same idea.

Auto would be a straight shot. One lever. All the way one way is park. 2 clicks will be N. One more for D

thanks everyone for the help, I got a really serious tranny problem right now and Im hoping its the shift linkage, otherwise the trans has to come out...again :( cars engaged in neutral it appears from the shifter :banghead:

I just looked, didn't realize the 2 cables are connected through a bracket, nothing looks bent or anything.

Also noticed the really big shifter peice underneath the 2 cables, do I move that at all?

Exactly what do I move to 'center' and how can I tell if it's center or not? The lines move up and down it appears when I move the shifter left to right.

Not sure off hand which cable goes to which lever. But they both have left right and center locations. I've never played with a dsm transmission myself but the manuals I have, one cable is the left and right on the in car shifter, and the other cable is the gear selector

Is the big metal peice underneath the cables (looking at the transmission) the counter weight that was mentioned above??

what is the counter weight?

thanks so much for making that video! VERY helpful.

So naturally, I just have to ask this since you said in the video you cut off the counter-weight underneath for clearance issues - what's it's purpose? does anyone know?

Like i stated in the video its to clear the 1g water pipe, most do it for a better feel for the shifter as well.

Im honestly not sure about that, 2gs cut the counter weight off to clear 1g water pipes when they do a 6 bolt swap.

from pictures and no mention of them i would say they don't have them.
