Massive Oil Leak , Video included

We have been working on getting my buddy's 97 GST running, a few months back timing belt broke and ate up all 16 valves, its been sitting for about 3 months and we finally got a brand new head for it from DSMgraveyard. Car is completely stock except for a greddy bov. any ideas?

are you sure the headgasket is on correctly/not damaged? that corner is famous for leaking oil.

is it coming from the head/block? i know there is a feed line to the turbo on that side too...

did you check the block/head before installing it with a straight edge/feeler gauge? its possible one is warped and not sealing properly with the headgasket

i wasn't there when he put the head on but that's a crazy amount of oil for a bad head gasket isn't it? , i forgot it also has ARP head studs, if that matters.

headgasket could be on wrong, make sure it's a 7bolt head, crack in the head!!! your gonna have to pull the head so you mide as well take it to the machine shop and have it checked out. always always when buying a head have it checked by your machine shop first before installing.

nope, i had that same issue. it wasnt that bad, but remember there are parts in the engine where oil passes thru the head AND the block-- this can be seen when you look at the amount of holes and passages on the headgasket itself. if you install the head and SLIDE it rather then place it straight down it can sometimes rip... or if there is warpage in the block or head youd be surprised at what 1/16th of an inch can do when it comes to liquid...

What is screwed into the oil feed supply from the head?

This is actually my head and i dont know whats screwed into my oil feed supply i thought it just had the plug that it went to the machine shop with it in and i really do not know!

and what do you mean by dowel pin?

It is probably that vented blow off valve

on the left side... THAT SIDE is a hole that an oil line that runs to the turbo supposed to go-- if its not there and just "plugged" then that may be your problem.

yea i just looked at it again... its kind of short and quick, so its hard to see.... but im going to go with my 1st thought of it being a HG

There is no reason oil should be coming from behind the thermostat housing as it is. You are missing the set screw (MS661140 - cylinder head taper plug, 1/8") on the front of the head there, are you missing the one on the thermostat housing side as well? I've circled the ones in question below as that seems to be the general area oil is shooting from and the small oil drivel from the hole on the exhaust side suggests they are oil ports. All other possibilities have been mentioned.

sounds good to me!! i saw that hole there in the vid but didnt think that was an oil passage. good to fix that regardless

I agree with 19Eclipse90, There's a allen wrench head plug that goes there. Dsmgraveyard probably forgot to put those back when they cleaned the head.

That's why I was asking; it looks to me like that's a thertmostat housing bolt too, and like all the oil holes in the head are open.

Don't start it to make a longer video because there's no oil getting to the head.

alright we'll check it out today and see if that fixes it we knew the front one was missing when we made the video we only saw a couple drops of oil come out of it so figured it was just a small problem that wasn't an immediate big deal.

i agree allen bolt its definatly pressurized oil not comming from head gasket (oil return)

Turns out there were missing plugs behind the thermostat housing, pulled the housing put plugs in and it runs just fine and holds oil. Thanks for all the help.

Ive been searching for someone posting about this leak all day and finally i find it. hopefully someone can help me out im confused now.... I have a leak from the same spot looking exactly like the video but im loosing about half the amount of oil as he is. Its enough to make a constant drip on the ground while running. Im confused though because my 95 talon has run and driven good with no leaks and out of nowhere it turns into this exact leak. how could this be possible considering i have not touched the thermostat housing. im confused on how the bolt would be able to come out while the thermostat housing is bolted up to it. any thoughts or help would be amazing. the car has been sitting for over a year now because i havent had the time to figure it out other then the countless hours ive spent looking for a post with this leak. PLEASE HELP ASAP im dyeing to drive this car again.
