I'm looking into purchasing a Big 16G (1,000 miles, no shaft play, etc). My mods can be seen in my profile. The turbo's item number is 49178-01420. I have a few questions.

When does the Big 16G begin to spool?
When does it hit full boost?

That's all for now. I'll probably have a few more that come up in the next few day. Also, I searched for the spool times of the big 16G and the only numbers I found related to the small 16Gs and the Evo III 16Gs. If you searched and found something different, then I apologize :)

Thanks:thumb:

You dont need to worry about spool with this turbo. Its small and spools fast. Boost starts before 3000rpm and usually full boost by 3200rpm. Madders on application. A quick search could have got you this answer.

I searched for almost 30 minutes and could not find any thing relating to my question; only answers concerning spool times of the small 16G and EvoIII 16G. Thanks for replying though :thumb:

I've read that the spool time is faster than a 14b, but I've also read that it is slower than a 14b. I'm running a ported 14b with ported O2 housing, 2.5" downpipe, and 3" O2-back exhuast. I'm worried about turbo lag and I don't want to drop $280 to have a turbo that I can only use above 40k rpm

i have evo III turbo and i love it, spools at 3000 rpm and for turbo lag who cares buddy. its very little lag in my opinion.

Update: I finished installing the turbo a week ago and have bee using it ever since. It works GREAT! Spool starts around 2800 and full boost hits by 3200 at WOT.

Now all I need is some bigger injectors. Fuel cut at 5k isn't fun :)

Thanks!

I'll do a boost leak test on Saturday while I fix a few oil leakage problems and change the oil.

Until then...

Adding larger injectors seem'd to fix my fuel cut problem. I had a 255lph and AFPR with a 14b. The 450's were at 98% duty at 4500K. And at 5000RPM it hits the brick wall.

Installed my 650's and it was alll better. No Boost leaks either, not any I was aware of.

Like already posted above, you're simply bandaging the problem by removing air flow through tuning. Assuming you were running less than 17psi with the 14b since you had 450s, 14b will not flow enough air at 17psi and 4500 rpm to trigger fuel cut.

No Boost leaks either, not any I was aware of.
LOL Most boost leaks don't come knocking on your door. It's not about whether you're aware of any leaks, it's about knowing for a fact that you have none.

A little update:

The b16g is doing pretty good! If I do a 4th gear pull starting at 1800 boost will start by 2000 and be at my MBC's limit, 15 psi, by 3000. Makes for fun commutes to and from school! :)

Sadly, my MBC broke (spring was bent), so now I'm running off the wastegate which isn't opening until 22-25psi. :notgood: Not good for the stock fuel system (minus the 190lph)! Oh well!

Now I will be getting injectors and DSMlink (for now) while I finish my 2.4L stroker. I've proved links to both threads if any one would like to post any comments or advice - it is all appreciated!

Thanks,
-John
