Hey guys, quick question. I know FP no longer sells their BigT28, but I have seen alot of other "big"t28's, such as; hpfreaks, gpopshop, machv etc....

It seems that FP set the bar on the t28, and since they no longer offer them, who makes the best bigt28, or are they all the same?

I dont think there is an equivalent for the fp t28. If im not mistaken, the rest are just t25s machined for a 28 compressor wheel. At any rate, theyre not really worth buying one new as there are cheaper and better solutions out there for our cars

G-Pop still lists them: G-Pop Shop :: *Brand New* Genuine Garrett Big T28 Turbo |

G-Pop can also upgrade a good *usable* T25 into a T28 for around $700. G-Pop Shop :: Turbo Upgrades

The FP "Big T28" was based on a factory upgrade turbo offered by Garrett that is apparently no longer available. I attempted to buy a parts kit for one of these last week as the bolt holes in the thrust plate are a little different than a standard T25/T28 center housing; I was told the parts kit has been discontinued so I had to modify a standard T28 thrust plate to work. The part number on that turbo's center housing is 705329-2.

Not asking to hear "its a waste of money" "there are better turbos" etc.... I dont want your 16g or w/e, sorry.

So none of these Bigt28's really compare to the ones that FP used to offer?

I never said it was a waste of money. Just said they arent worth buying new. I wasnt aware gpopshop sold a true big t28. I thought all of their t28s were converted t25s. Have you considered a gt28?

Weren't the Fp t28s/ aren't all "big" t28's just converted t25's?

The t28 was the stock turbo on nissans rb25 and rb26 they are readily available for less than $200. Don't know if they are the same as the big t28

No. Re-read the very first post I made in this thread.

The FP "Big T28" was once called a TB2578 under Garrett's branding. Same 9-blade turbine was used in all types of Garrett GT2560's regardless of housing selection:

They're not.

You'll hear that t28s are a waste of time from just about everyone that has a 16g or never had one. The t28 is a very good street/autox turbo and you hardly ever hear about a disappointed t28 owner. I bought a fp big t28 I'm pretty sure they just sent me a Garrett big t28. I am very happy with my t28 just don't expect to be the fastest thing out there

Thats true. I heard spool was faster with the 28 but falls off faster than the e316g. Everyone has different needs. I went with a e816g just to be different. And have less than $200 into my setup :D

They basically are from a 16G owners' standpoint. A Small 16G is basically the same turbo as a T28 with a better-flowing turbine wheel and housing coupled with better durability and a cheaper price tag...why would a 16G owner want to pay more to get less?

The T28 is more of a direct-fit upgrade for stockish 2G's but as soon as you go to a FMIC then the compressor outlet is facing the wrong direction. The 16G doesn't have this problem.

I bought a fp big t28 I'm pretty sure they just sent me a Garrett big t28.
As I stated above, you bought a Garrett TB2578/GT2560. :D

I've ran both big t28 and 16g. All I had was problems with boost creep and tried porting external dump bigger flapper. To me the 16g is not worth it and cause of the problems myself and many people have had with it. Not saying it's not a good turbo but for me I got more out my t28 then my 16g.

If boost creep was the problem with the 16g, you weren't setup to run enough boost to take advantage of the 16g. I ran an evo3, and a big t28 on one of my cars before, and at 25psi the 16g made way more power.

I ran both at 17psi. T28 rock solid 16g was not and there's still people that run 20+ psi and still get creep after porting. For myself it was a waste of time and money but I'm not trying to diss the 16g. It is an impressive little turbo if creep is solved.

So FP cant rebuild the T28s anymore?

Isn't there 2 different t28 turbine wheels?

Fp is the 9 blade. regular t28 is 10 and the t25 is 11 correct?
Like I said earlier....what FP was once calling a "Big T28" wasn't really a T28 at all, it was a TB2578. That in mind, there is only one T28 turbine wheel. ;)

Maybe, maybe not. Being that they once sold that turbo your chances are pretty good at getting a rebuild for one if you own one. If not, that's why there are guys like me around. :D

Im just looking for the most powerful t25 looking turbo (FP t28 was perfect but now gone). Who makes the best stock appearing turbo for a 2g dsm?

So who makes the best big t28 now?
Garrett. Just because FP no longer sells them doesn't mean they're no longer available. ;)

Maybe you might be better off with a small 16g, and a downfiring cover, with an elbow welded on, and smoothed up so it looks "factory"
Ah yes, one of those. :D
