I don't remember if I ever introduced myself back then.
I bought my first DSM back in 2009 (still only one I've had). '92 (early with 6-bolt) FWD, turbo, automatic, 165k miles. It was bone stock at the time, complete with cracked turbo exhaust side and crumbling exhaust manifold. Only $900.
I originally joined to find out what I could do about the cracked stuff but never actually asked a question. I started reading everything I could get my hands on about turbo swapping and then started buying parts. I bought the turbo first (evoIII 16g from Forced Performance). A few weeks later I saved up enough for an evoIII exhaust manifold and O2 housing. It was then I discovered that the auto turbo and manual turbo had different sized in/out water fittings so I started collecting the small bits - water lines, oil feed and return, ex/man studs and nuts, turbo bolts, O2 housing bolts and stud. Then I found that I needed to do something about the downpipe so I grabbed a Megan 3" shiny goodness. The boltholes were about 1/8" off on the downpipe but the trusty dremel took care of that after about 2 hours of grinding with the only bit I had.
Cut to the fall of 2011, I had finally gotten all that I needed and after work one Friday evening I started tearing everything out. By midnight I was done with part 1 - disassembly. Re-started early on Saturday morning. Fired it up about 4 hours later. Ran like crap. Checked to make sure the MAF connector was on tight and realized I never reconnected it. Plugged it in and has been great ever since. About to roll over 190k miles this year.
Well it's been running great at least until I have to change out the motor mounts. Which is why I'm here today.
