Hello, my name is Tyler and I'm from Indiana. I have recently acquired a 1990 Plymouth Laser RS Turbo FWD. This car has been extremely well taken care of, all the upkeep has been kept on this car and documented. The car is completely stock minus a silent muffler out back. Basically, this car is going to be a daily driver, however I would like to make a few modifications to it such as headers, exhaust, intake, after-market BOV, and maybe push the boost up a little just enough to have fun with it LOL. I am completely new to the DSM crowd and turbo cars period. I appreciate all the help that I can get to accomplish these things and if you do decide to assist me, please be very clear in your descriptions so that I don't screw this car up LOL, pics are GREATLY appreciated. Thanks to everyone for your assistance and I can't wait to get started on this car!!!

Yo, welcome to dsmtuners. I have been into DSM's for a good minute, but, like yourself, new to the forum stuff. These forums are an excellent tool. Do not be shy on researching the posts. A good start would be to take out your silencer in your mass air flow, clean your injectors, replace fuel filter, rewire fuel pump, cut your air filter can, get a K&N, boost controller (do not go over 14lbs), wideband, etc... all of these how to's are found in the forums. Routine and preventative maintenace are essential. P.S. do NOT run typical mobil 1 synthetic or whatever. Run a good oil like Royal Purple w/ a K&N oil filter. I live in Fl, so I use 20/50, sometimes you can get a deal on the stuff. I found a deal for $7 a quart. Do not settle for ebay crap parts. You pay for what you get. Good luck buddy.

Thanks a lot guys for the assistance. Basically I am wanting just to gain a few hp and a couple lbs of boost. I don't want to go above 15 or anything that requires tuning of the ecu and/or fuel system. I've been reading a lot on these forums and seeing a lot of stuff to do. I can't wait to get into the car and start to build it.

you could pull the restrictor out of the stock boost controller and get a few more pounds of boost, Hack the air can and maf, also put a k&n filter on it and get a lil more power. fuel pump rewire is a good idea as well since the factory wiring is known to be a weak spot and cause voltage drop at the pump.

Welcome, this is the best site I have found to research an learn anything on DSM cars. My suggestion would be to first clean up your engin bay area an then do some routine maintenance such as plugs, wires, clean injectors, vacuum lines, oil change, differential oil, transfer case oil, transmission oil, coolant. I use red line oil products mt 90 an shock proof, they are highly recommended by many on this site. Once you get that stuff out of the way the information given by the guys up above is very good. Go to VFAQ.COM it will give you step by step instructions on how to remove the silencer from the mass an how to hack your can to get more airflow. There is a wealth of knowledge on VFAQ.COM. You don't need an after market boost controller to get a few more h.p., if you do the k&n air filter an hack the can an remove the restrictor for the stock boost controller like TIM stated you will get what your asking for. I learned the hard way that if your going to want x horse power more you had better do the research an plan plan plan everything out. Good luck.

Ok, I know the 1g has a recirculating BOV which almost eliminates that "whoosh" sound famous with turbo cars. How can I get that sound by keeping my setup the same (aftermarket recirculating BOV) or is that not really possible with these cars until heavier mods & tuning have been established?

extremely well said, I cant stress enough if you are unsure of when the last timing belt was and it is around the suggested milage to change DO IT!

Ok, so I purchased an Intake Tube for my car. It has a hole coming out of the side (recirculation tube), but does not have a connector for the Crankcase Ventilation and the tube that is below it, plus I have no way to connect the MAF unless I cut the box away and make my own. Any help here would be great because I really want to run my cold air intake!

Would need to know which one you bought and also do you plan on keeping emissions items? You could do the taboo vacuum line mod listed below, the line from the valve cover to the intake pipe should be pluged on the intake pipe and a vent filter put on the valve cover FYI. This prevents oil from building up in the piping and intercooler.

Well, I definitely pulled a "redneck setup" on this one LOL! I took and drilled two 3/8" holes in the pipe where those vacuum lines are supposed to be located. I cut the original rubber intake off where those lines are connected and slid it over the metal intake pipe with those holes lined up LOL. I tightened it down and then slid a Spectra Coupling between the rubber and the metal and tightened it down. After that I removed my silencer from the MAF setup and attached that part of the air can back to the rest of the intake tube. I took the air can "cap " off of the car completely and just have the K&N filter chilling in there. I have it installed and it works great, but I do have a couple of questions about this intake setup. Ok, so when I installed it and started the car, the car was idling at close to 1200rpms and my factory boost gauge was sitting at that -7 mark instead of all the way down. I let it run for a minute and shut it off, repositioned the coupling that was on the turbo and tightened it down as much as I could, started the car back up, and it was idling at closer to 950-1000rpms. Do to time constraints, I wasn't able to adjust it any further. When I drove it...it ran great and sounded great, and when I would stop...the idle would be normal and the boost gauge would read normal. However, this morning I went to start it and it idled high again until I started driving...any ideas? Finally the last part of this long-winded post, the inlet pipe for the recirculation tube on my CAI tube sits EXTREMELY close to my lower radiator hose and pushes into it a little actually, is this normal or is this the wrong pipe? And I guess while I'm at it, the pipe recommended a 2.5"-3.0" coupling to go from the pipe to the turbo, well...the 2.5" side was way to big for the turbo and I had to tighten the hell out of the clamp holding it on just to close the damn thing...is that right or not? Thanks guys!
