Do I Need to Change My Maf When I upgrade to HX35?

Going hx 35 and its in a 1g. My setup now with the 2g maf and 20g puts my filter right up against the inside passanger finder. With the new setup, will I have enough clearance with the 2g maf? Also is the fp 4" pipe shorter than the 2g injen intake pipe or should I go ahead and switch to gm maf and ecmlink cable and ditch the 2g maf?

The 2g maf will hold you back. It starts being a restriction around 400-450whp. You might have to fab an intake. I got a piece of 4" truck exhaust pipe, and 2 45* silicone couplers. Then I cut and ground on the inlet to the 2g maf so a 4" K&N filter would fit on it. It barely fit in the bay.

I now run a maft, and it's the second best thing I ever did to the car.

I don't know that I'd call SD an upgrade. I strongly suggest getting the setup together with a maf to get the bugs out/get the car running/broke in/ and a decent tune on it.

SD adds a whole other monkey wrench in the tuning process.

I'm also still not convinced that it is ideal for a turbo car.

I get what you mean, but compared to the 2g MAF I'd still call it an upgrade.

And the initial setup is 90% of the battle. In the end, your still using the same DA tables to adjust fuel and timing.

I'm leaning toward gm maf with the ecmlink cable if I have to change from the 2g maf. I can't tune very good and SD might be too much of a hassel for me to have to pay every time it needs tuning. Nevermind on the fp intake pipe as I just seen its oval on the upper end for a 2g maf LOL.

I'm going the bep .55 bolt-on route if that helps any. Thought about going t3, but I already have the recirculated 02 wg setup and fp manny.

You seem worried about fitment, while you should be more concerned with the fact that the 2G MAS is going to stop reading at around 50 lb/min unless you utilize MAF Clamp on Link...at which point you may as well go to Speed Density. :D

But to answer your question- a FP intake pipe will solve any fitment issues between a 2G MAS and a turbo with a 4" inlet.

GM maf is not a bad idea at all. SD is not the end all be all that everyone makes it out to be.

I don't think that it quits measuring at 50lbs/min. It just has an erratic output, but I have not found it to be that big of an issue. The bigger issue is that it is a big restriction, and you start drawing the air below atmospheric, and it really limits the total airflow you can have. I moved 60lbs/min and didn't have a problem.

The FP intake won't work beause there isn't room for an airfilter.

The limits of the 2g mas was on the brain too, but going gm maf will eliminate the fitment issue at the same time. Looks like it going to be gm. Went to the junkyard today and pulled about 10 of them until I was satisfied with the cleanest one. With my luck watch it not work.

Sure about that?

This is a 1Ga; still clears the headlight motors:

That's not a K&N, but it's similar in style...just not super-long. Length-wise, his filter looks like:

Turbo placement in regard to manifold options has a great deal to do with this as well.
