UNique H1C can't find anything like it (what's it capable of)

I got one tonight but i have higher goals than that wheel will flow (50mminducer) and i want to put a real 58 or 56mm wheel n it if i get it, is this possible

also the turbine housing is frozen on with one bolt stuck for it's life that i'm gonna hve to cut out to seperate the housing from the CHRA, is this turbine useless as far as housings go, I was gonna machine a T3 5 bolt housing to hold it, but i know i've heard nothing but bad in the holset thread about this turbo it seems

so, can i put the bigger 56 or 58mm 35 or 40 wheels in it?

edit: I shuldd add this isnt the typical small h1c, it's an 8 blade unit with NO WASTEGATE, what i found on a cummins forum is that it's from an older 12v motor and also used on tractors or something, it also has an 81.2x mm exducer and the weirdet blade structure i'veever seee, if anyone can help with this i'll be apreciative, i'm working on getting pics up

ok, it gets weirder and better...the inducer is like i said 50mm 8 blade, then with the secondary blades making it a 16 blade, but the major of the exducers is 3.2 inches or 81.23mm, the housing is non-MWE, it's i a twin scrol hot side that's HUGe and has no wastegate but does have a 3" v-band oulet

some one help me figure out what thisis capable of and if i want it or not (i have till tomorrow to decide really

the turbine is 12 blades but since i can't get it apart yet i only know the minor diameter of 2.47" or 62.79mm

Here's pics

Any idea what the total airflow capability of this turbo is????

Looks like the standard H1C off the early non-intercooled 12V Cummins engine. 7 or 8 blade compressor, it's still 50mm...and they made the exhaust housing huge (21cm^2) instead of running a wastegate. I'm unsure about compressor wheel swaps... if anything the larger H1C compressor should fit.

edit: I can check, but I believe the non-intercooled Cummins H1C I have sitting at home is identical (with an 8 blade, 50mm compressor)

The larger 54mm 8-blade H1C wheel is similar to the 8-blade HX35 compressor. That may give you an idea of it's capability. As it sits, I'd rather run a 16g for ease of installation.

Yup, a relic from a non-intercooled 1G Dodge truck. Not unique by any means.

Not sure if a map exists on this wheel, but a 50mm/83mm compressor should be capable of 48-50 lb/min. Perhaps some guys running this turbo can chime in with log info.

HX compressors are NOT interchangeable with H1 turbos- the compressor seal collars are different widths, so a HX compressor will not sit flush with the backplate like a H1 compressor does.

I thought hx35 and hx40 shared the same compresors with Wh1c and Wh1e? they say in the holset thread they arethe same and that the turbines are too in most cases

if it flows 50lb/mn or more that would be awesome (if it spooled faster than a 57 trim anyway)

I already have a t3 mani and extra housings to machine to fit it so it would be easier to mount this than a 16g andcheaper seeing as i don't own a 16g exceptthe small one waiting to be rebuilt.

The holset is in perfect shape too, i was thinking about a garrett .48 a/r t3 husing to get me similar performance of the .55bep housins and fast spool, but i also got a to4e 46 trim tonight that needs arebuild kit and i ordered a few the other day, so if i takethis i'll have a 57 trim, 46 trim, H1c and 16g, and then can sell 2 of them and get an hy35 like i want

sounds reasonable or should i just keep my PTE6776 and sell that to buy a hy35? (also i'm getting 1600 injectors with those 2 turbos on trade for my 67mm turbo) that sound fair to you guys?

also, for what i found the 8 blade h1c was supposed to be a case tractor and an intercooled automatic 12v cummins engine, not saying your wrong butthat's what i found on holset sites searching tonight, jsut couldn't find airflow numbers

Same inducer/exducer spec in some cases, same blade count perhaps...but not the same identical wheel.

gotchya,,, how would you compare the one i have to a 50 trim? pros and cons of this vs. garret 50 trim??? (considering that i machine a housing so that's not part of the equation of having tobuy it)

your thoughts and opinions on this would mean a lot to mydecision on trading this or not for good

guy is willing to give me 4 RC engineering 1600's, this holset and a t3/t4 46 trim for my to4r t67 turbo in journal bearing format (leaving me the BB unit to play with :D )

Another question/resuest

since this is the model that can mount in the BEP housing i wanted to see if anyone had one of the larger h1c wheels (54mm or the 56mm hx35 twin/brother ) I ask because this is in great shape, and i love the fact that it can remoce the compressor housing with one v-band.

I would like to obtain a larger wheel to se if i can't machine the housing to pull more flow out of this puppy

My first project is to stick it into either a T3 .48 a/r or t3 .63a/r turbine housing..justin, can you gimme a reason that the .48 would be better or worse? I know it flows less but this compressor wheel isn' t the highest flowing to start with and the .48 isn't that much smaller than th .55 bolt on unit (but i can go .63 if it's going to yield a decent gain) but since it's a lower flowing unit (your guess of 48 -50lb/min, i thought 16g like spoool would be a killer benefit

So anyone with a housing and wheel or just wheel for the H1c that's bigger than the 50mm please let me know it you're willing to come off the parts PLEASE

Also this one having a 3.2" 81.23mm exducer, how harmfull would this backing plate be to smalller exducer wheels? i've seen smaller wheels with larger back plate cutouts before but had nothing to baseline o compare too... i'm thinking if i don't go T3 with this i might start hunting for a used BEP .55a/r housing so if you have a used one of those PM me as well :D

cant wait to try this puppy out, just goot to where i knew the 67mm unit wasn't for me or my goals, too peaky and wantint to perform to high in th rev range for my build/combo

Also, Justin if you know other wheels that WILL work (say h1e wh1e) please let me know so i can be on the lookoutfor those as well :D )i finally joined theholset club YEY)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, I found earlier that i can order upgraded compressors and housings all the way up to the range of 60mm inducer capable of 680hp or so, and all for less than buying an HX 35 :) Like i said i like the v-band compressor housing, and as soon as i machine a t3 5 bolt husing to accept the turbine wheel i'll be runningthis baby :D

Only thing i don't like is that this one has the single hex nut on the shaft meaning the assmebly was balanced as a whole so i will need to have the new wheel and shaft balanced together or have the shaft coponent balanced on it's own before the upgrade

Also found a member willing to sell me a 56mm H1c wheel , So i may just skip over the MWE equiped housing i wanted (mainly wanted the choice to use my 4"intake pipe I made still) but being that it hurts spool a tad, i guess the noise isn't worth it unless i could get the insert the dodge trucks come with to plug it.
