Just was checking to see if anyone has tryed one of these. I see people having good luck with the cheap 16gs. So I was thinking maybe if i pick up one of these for 500.00 or less it maybe worth it.
I havent cheaped out anywhere else on the car But was thinking I could buy 4 of these compared to one from garrett.

When have you EVER heard of people having good results with ebay turbos?

I think Justin actually did a test with one of these and it didn't last longer then 500 miles before it imploded on itself. So like others have said I think your 500 bucks would be better spent finding something in the classifieds.

If your looking to spend 500 bucks on a ebay turbo then why not buy a holset or a used turbo from the classifields? Thats a lot of money to waste on a paper weight.

What he said. I just got a holset. If your looking to spend that much, you can get a 20g or something similar.

All you have to do is search ebay 16g tons of people on here ran them with decent results. I was really looking into a 4202 but came across the ebay 4292. Most of you are ###### right when you say you get what you pay for or it may last 500 miles. But there is always a chance that it may work great for a few yrs.
Is that a chance im willing to take probaly not.

So this thread is useless.

Here's something to consider- any DSMer seeking a power level in the realm of a 42R is not going to shop for a $500 eBay special turbo to bolt to their $1500 top-mount T4 manifold with twin $400 TiAL wastegates.

Thats what I was thinking. Why cheap out on the turbo when you know if your running that big of a turbo your going to need a built bottom.:thumb:

Yeah i would hate to F*&* something up by buying a cheap turbo when i have this much money into the bottom end and head. Guess i just itching to get it finished up quicker.

THE BITTERNESS OF POOR QUAILITY LINGERS LONG AFTER THE SWEETNESS OF CHEAP PRICE IS FORGOTTEN

OP, Dont skimp out when your goals are high enough to actually have a use for a 42r. Nuff said.

That 37R is a steal at $900.

That Ebay 42R might be ok at lower boost levels and airflow. But what about when you crank it up and try to make some power? Are you ready to replace a $1000 intercooler, cause is lunched a compressor wheel? Are you ready to rebuild your shortblock, because it filled your oil system with shrapnel? That's quite the risk to take when you factor in that it will probably only perform to 95% or less of what a genuine one would.

Now, HOT ROD magazine has had some good results with some Ebay 75mm turbo's. I belive they were CX racing, but they might have been master power. They ran a pair of them on a 4.8l LS engine to like 1200hp, and tons of pulls. And even a single to like 700hp too. But the boost was fairly low, and they only ran them to about half of what they should do.

Also, the Master Power brand turbo's that are sold on eBay, are supposedly decent units for the money. They are pretty reliable, and don't blow up, but they are based on old school garret stuff, so the efficiency is shit compared to modern stuff.

Master Power sucks. Their internals are not interchangeable with Genuine Garrett parts, and they GOUGE you when you attempt to buy rebuild parts from them to the point where it's almost cheaper to buy another turbo.

They wanted in the area of $200 for the same basic kit that services a T3 Garrett that can be found on eBay for around $50-$75, but they make their shafts and journals an oddball size so you have to buy the parts through them.

That may be true, but I've not read that they explode like the super cheap junk does.

That's funny. Every person i've seen run a MP has been doing so for years and love them. A Ebay turbo is no where near the same level of quality as MP turbo. MP which doesn't make performance turbos anymore held International Standard ISO 9001 and unlike most the turbo's i'm seeing lately they have had no issues for years! I I even had a MP T70 before I got my Comp Turbo. I wouldn't put it on my car. The only downside is MP T70 is to damn laggy and the power band sucks. Even with that tiny ass p-trim wheel my current turbo spooled 1000 rpm before a MP T70 would. But for those who just care about makin a number it will make a tad over 700 awhp LOL. The only MP I have seen that had issues was on a road race twin turbo RX7. They still made power but after 6yrs his turbos started to smoke LOL. I've seen them on 2 local DSM's. One guy with a Evo 3 on street tires ran 10.4 (which is still faster than 95% of DSM's) and he was also a MP distributor. A Canadian with a auto dsm has been running low 10's/high 9's for years when he had a MP T70. Then comes the local domestic guys running them. 1 mustang running low 10's and 2 mustangs running mid 9's & 1 grand national. All the local guys i've seen drive and race more than 98% of the DSMer's I've ever seen or heard of. So why do you say they suck :hmm:?
