Do I need to hook up the vacuum line to the unit for it to work right? Is it only for boost readings on the controller?

I already have my Digital Boost Gauge "T" off on the FPR line. Is it OK to get a 4 Way splitter or use another boost source? If so where?

If you mean the vacuum fitting on the back of the controller, then no it is not necessary. I have been running mine without it for years.
