I'm looking at buying a new O2 housing to bolt on to my Evo 3 16G, something with a Tial MV-S wastegate.

It's down to MAP or Punishment Racing since they both sell package units with the Tial. The question is which one?

I had a PR one at one point so I know the quality is top notch.
Never seen a MAP one with my own 2 eyes but they look pretty in pictures.

I've heard that one of them doesn't have the right flange on the turbo side so it might need to be ported for my Evo 3 16G, anyone else heard this?

Clearance is a big thing for me, MAP says will clear the alt and stock fans perfectly. I'm not sure about the PR one.

Which would you pick?

I personally use the PR MVS recircualted o2 housing. Clears alternator, removed my AC fan however.

Hey, do you have any pictures of the clearance between the wastegate and the radiator??

Is there enough clearance for a slim fan in there??

On my setup I used a FP Race Manifold with an HX40 in a BEP bolt on housing. The wastegate actually sat in the fan (Mishimoto radiator with their slim fan and shroud combo). Perhaps with the fan attached directly to the radiator you'll have enough clearance.

I've been running the MAP one for a year with no issues. Some people claim the flanges (which are thinner than PR's) will warp, but I haven't had any leaks (you just need to make sure the mounting surfaces are flat and clean before install, no matter what flanges are used). If you look at how MAP molds the recirc pipe back into the main pipe, it's at less of an angle than PR's which would seem to offer better flow with less turbulence (though I'm not aware of any testing to back this up).

The main reason I went with the MAP housing is b/c I already had an MVS wastegate and Punishment refused to sell me just the O2 housing by itself. :notgood: MAP sold me just the O2 housing and it took a bit of elbow grease but I was able to squeeze the MVS into place on the flanges.

My only complaint (which applies to BOTH brands) is that the housings do not have studs for the downpipe, so downpipe removal becomes a PITA and involves removing the fan shroud and using a stubby wrench to hold the bolts in place from the top. I hate this.

Finally, The fit seems to be better on the MAP O2 housing. I have it mounted to the HX35 BEP housing on an Evo 3 manifold in my 1g, and as you can see from this pic there's PLENTY of room (enough to put the factory shroud over the spal fan after some trimming). I only had to trim the shroud, there's plenty of room for the fan. Oh, and my fan is bolted to the shroud which moves it a little closer to the wastegate than the usual spal setup which is mounted directly to the radiator.

I have the pr one, had to bash stock fan in a bit to fit and top of the gate hits my alternator. After less than 400 miles my springs in the gate heated up while they were compressed, and if you don't know what happens, when you heat a spring up and compress it, it stays in a compressed state. Tim shipped me out new springs right away tho, excellent customer service.

Oh, I forgot to mention, as you can see from my pics, with the MAP housing the wastegate clears the alternator and power steering pump just fine, and I didn't even have to bend the oil dipstick. Keep in mind I'm running an HX35 with BEP housing on an EvoIII manifold. Not sure if all of that lines up the same as a 16g, but I'd bet it works fine.

Liquid check out my solution fot that radiator setup and lack of clearance. First pic is the way Mishimoto configues their setup. Second is after I modded the shroud. Im using a FP exhaust housing but you can get an Idea of how much room you will gain by doing this from the pics.

Forgot to mention, mine was with a Turbonetics T04E 57trim with bolt on housing .63ar that it hit the fan and alternator, I have pics in my profile photos I believe.

Im trying to install a turbo on a customers car and its the pr rec o2 with the mvs and its hitting the alt.

Are you guys switching to a 1G alternator something? It also has the stock 2g manifold if it matters; maybe have to run the PR manifold...I dont know?

Is there a wastegate that for sure will clear stock fans? I know my PR recurc o2 I had to remove my AC fan on my other Talon.

I need an external o2 housing for my DD but I need radiator fans more importantly. Rather not go MVS as thats too expensive. Just a normal 2 bolt wastegate.
