I'll soon be switching from my T70 to a Holset H1C. I have no balance shafts and was hoping someone could give me an insight on what needs to be done as far as oil feed / drain manipulation. I've been trying to find some answers from the local diesel mechanics as to how much oil pressure these turbo's need to run reliably. But since I'll be pushing different boost levels on a gas motor I wanted to account for unforseen circumstances. The T70 I have now is fed with no restrictors from the head as opposed to the filter housing.

Thanks in advance for your help.

You should be running your oil line from the filter housing with a .059 to .073 restrictor. Its best to play with the restrictor size to get the best spool. Also make sure your drain is large enough to accomodate the flow of oil. I believe holset center sections are happy at arround 30psi with a max of 60psi.

Thanks a lot. Last thing I wanna do is kill the Holset before I get the chance to enjoy it. This will be my first experience with a Holset and hopefully not the last. Maybe some day a HX52 when I have the motor to handle it. :)

The h1c is WAY smaller than that t70 :) . . . Don't let the covers fool you.

I baught the T70 off ebay and swore by it until I saw pressure test video's of the ebay "T70" VIOLENTLY self distructing. That thing turned into an exploding pile of flying shrapnel that I want no part of. I know I can keep puttin around on it with 15-17 psi of boost. But now I'm worried that a trip up to 30-38 psi at the track could result in me eating compressor wheel fragments that may come through my firewall.

Plus with it being the ebay knock off that it is, I don't exactly believe that it's specs are that of a genuine T70. I would have to compare the maps to be sure. So since the used Holsets are as affordable as the ebay clones, I'll take my chances with the used H1C.

AH! Any real turbo ultimately flows more than a china turbo. It may flow less initially, but it will flow that air for a much longer period of time :)
