List some tips of how to take care of your turbo?

make sure your oil pressure isnt over 90-100psi (still high) when fully warmed up.
after the install of the turbo, make sure you prim it fist so its lubed before start up.
make sure you dont have any kinks in the drain and feed line and use -4line and
fittings for the feed and -10 for the drain. you can use a oil filter for the turbo....
but be carefull, i have had some freinds here local that had a turbo fail with the filter
and they wernt covered because the had bearing in the turbo.....yea.

does the turbo need to be cooled down only if your racing it or with normal driving to? what if im driving for 1hr and then reach my destination do i need to cool down the turbo for more then 1min? i usually drive normal few minutes before i get to where im goin...

yea i guess so but i had it up for a while and nobody is serious or has that kind of cash i guess. i spent alot of money after u came over on the car. took the car into ams and done alot of new stuff to it.

Did you end up getting it dynoed? Obviously I'd like to hear the numbers!

Hey talon boy. Why is all the stuff on your profile say private? Were a tuner site, we like to share info about what were using, just in case we have problems it's easier to help people.. The gsx was sitting by an evo so someone knows something about 4g63's that you know..

Is there really a town in illinois called illinois?

Turbo timers help...I have one, but I didn't like it.

Just wondering if u guys can list some tips how to keep the turbo in good health since i paid alot for mine i dont feel like doin that again LOL....

On top of what Bastard DSM said, have a oil pressure gauge installed/if you don't have one already. DO NOT boost your turbo, unless your oil pressure is at its lowest point at idle and it doesn't go lower/meaning car is fully warm and oil flows around WELL/.

Take your intake OFF periodically and check for play/IN&OUT; UP&DOWN/. Make sure you use BRAND name air filter.
If you have a pre turbo oil filter, check that one periodically too/make sure it isn't clogged/.

Regardless of what people say, have the turbo TIMED, or at least wait before you shut it off...
Final, do not let expensive turbo, ruin your enjoyment of the car: If everything is right, doesn't matter the abuse you'll throw on... Your motor will likely go, before the turbo.

P.S. Otherwise, wait for the sucker next to you to think, that he's got ahead of you, DOWNSHIFT and blow him OFF....... Baaaad.LOL

It is only essentially necessary to turbo-time a turbo that is not water cooled....not that I approve of shutting a water-cooled turbo down without proper idling as well. Idling after a hard run allows the turbine blades to cool slowly and lessens the chance that they will warp or distort...it's not just the oil coking that's a problem.

Aside from that, it is mandatory that you understand the oiling requirements for the turbo you are using, especially if it's not a factory turbocharger. You must understand how oil pressure your turbo needs to operate properly, as well as the oil pressure your engine is putting out. Every engine is different- what works well for one guy's setup will absoultely destroy another's. There are variables like mileage, oil weight, oil filter housing modification, and balance shaft removal that drastically change how our engines supply oil to various locations.

Then anytime you ask for assistance in one of the tech threads such as the three "Check engine light on my 97 gsx need help" threads you started, we must assume your car is stock, or you don't own a DSM at all. =]=]=]=]=]

well i have a greddy oil catch can and i use mobil 1 15w-50 syn....oil filter m1-108. plus my turbo comes with a water cooled center housing.

That is NOT what i was referring to, a catch can is for crankcase vapor. A pre-turbo inline oil filter goes inbetween your turbo and the oil filter housing to keep metal debris from entering your turbo's CHRA and from blocking oil flow to your bearings.

yea but wouldnt a water cooled center housing help the turbo to and using synthetic oil?

Don't make me get mean please. Using a water jacketed CHRA will of course keep the bearings cool. Synthetic oil doesn't mean DICK when it comes to "helping" a turbo. Viscosity does, and keeping foreign debris from entering your oil passages and thereby blocking them, starving your bearings of lubrication.

On journal bearing turbos, you can have a large enough oil supply to theoretically "bypass" the need for a water jacket. However, on ball bearing turbos, because of the relatively small amount of oil needed to lubricate the bearings, a water jacket is mandatory.

These guys are trying to help you out and you're being an ass with them and not paying attention.
The least you can do is answer back politely and not bash them like you did to bud and pay some more mind to what these knowledgeable dsm'ers are telling you instead of just self-centering yourself on your own assumptions.
