I will attach a log, boostest seems to be dead on if not damn close.

Spool is a bit slow for my taste, but hopefully some changes will make it better.

stock bottom end, HKS264/272, 950s, HX35 bolton internal gate, Link, FP intake, FP race mani.
3" downpipe to cutout, 2G O2 housing. Stock IM. NT TB

My review so far, A lot laggier than I thought it would be, turbo seems to be very linear with spool no hit like the 16G, well fixed that with turning up the boost.
I hope the Evo 3 O2 housing that i just got that is matched to the holset helps with spool.

On the street turbo is awesome, hits full boost and destroys tires in 2nd gear roll from about 4k with 3 people in the car, running thru the gears is amazing, the powerband feels like a 16g car but about 1000 rpm to the right (higher, tq from 4k to redline)

Thanks for any helpful advice.

Oops I left that out. 35spike taper to 26-27psi.

I made 410 458tq on the same dyno with a 16G and about the same kind of boost, but like i said the 35 moved the powerband up to a more useful place for drag racing.

The bolton housing is choking you on top. I think if it was in the t3 housing you would get more payoff for the lag. With your cams and the large turbo you should be making more hp than tq.

Yes, but he would also have more lag to deal with in the first place. Also, the 264/272 cams aren't that big, I'm really not surprised that those cams with the stock intake manifold produce more torque than horsepower. On our EvoIII 16g setup with a stock 1g intake mani and HKS 264/272 cams we made 10 more ft lbs than hp on pump and 15 more on race, so these results seem to be very much in keeping with what the OP got.

The higher torque numbers are from the boost spike then falloff, at least a good part of it.
Replacing the internal gate with an external, or another way of allowing the boost to held 35 psi throughout the powerband( or at least tapering off much less) he would definitely make more power with the same torque. It would make the extra lag you are having much more worth it.

What Injector DutyCycle are you seeing with your 950s?

I have a similar setup:
WHC1 with Bolt-On Housing, External Gate, 3" O2 Housing, Stock 6-Bolt Motor

I have boost set at 12 psi now, and its really disappointing.

If you had a log with: AirFlow, Boost, RPM and DutyCycle.
It would be very helpful to me, to squeeze the last drop out of my injectors.

Thanks.

Highlighted your problem. :p

Are you pushing coolant into the overflow bottle? Your coolant temp graph is a little shaky between 4200rpm and 4800rpm This is a clear indication that boost is affecting your coolant in some way. Let us know.

HaHaHa, Yea man I know how that feels, But trust me with these Big Holset turbos they really start waking up after 20psi, On my car (hx35 bolton) going from 10psi to ~20 wasn't as impressive as going from 21 to 23, these things really wake up in the low 20psi range.

Also to OP, what kind of boost controller are you using?

what gas is this on?

nice numbers!!!

Not bad. Now get an external gate and see if it holds boost. Also what hx35 is that? Is it the 6/7/8 blade? I was going to get one to upgrade my 16g but I want something that will hold boost to redline and beable to make 500whp easily on e85. Im going with the hx40 8/12 blade and want to compare spools of it to some hx35's.

Yea what gas are you using?

And I can see another 50whp just in changing to external gate with a stiffer spring ( holding boost longer) as well as upgrading the exhaust mani to say a FP manifold or something like that. Not to mention a SMIM will give you a hell of a lot of power up top as well to make the lag worth it. So not bad considering your current mods list...

Im hoping for 450awhp on my hx40 on straight 93 with a smim, external gate, better exhaust mani than you have etc, so if your running straight pump gas that gives me some hope. ( doubtful)

Do you got any vids of your car you could send me, or put up on youtube or something?

He is running a FP Exhaust Manifold.

I would be surprised if thats on straigh pump gas. If so thats real good.

Hey Black I thought you where going with an hx35. You decided on an 8blade hx40 also?

Na check my build thread, I have a 56mm 6blade billet hx40, Its like the odd ball version of the hx40 so dont know how to compare to the others?
Hopefully I dont regret getting the hx40 over the hx35, I mean the spool times should be
within respectable ranges but will the hx40 give the additional Umph over the hx35 at pump gas boost levels to warrent the worth? Guess I'll find out, until then Ill keep watching other peoples reviews!

TurboTalon1g,what are your next plans for your setup?
Though your numbers could be greatly improved just in hard parts alone, Its obvious that the aggressive boost spike you had going on was what gave you the hit back like you missed from your 16g due to the increased torque. A plus about bigger turbos, I like the idea of a linear power climb for drivetrain sake, thus keeping peak torque numbers tame, but the e316g does have a very fun hit when pushed hard enough. Since you laid down some good numbers on the 16g; id like to ask, in direct comparison between the two turbos give us some pros and cons of what you "feel", and like/dislike about each snail as far as driving around on the street goes. ( Though thats mostly a rhetorical question i guess.)

Holy crap batman, I am really sorry for not responding sooner guys. I am currently in SA TX, for training and i had to get the car ready, basically turned it from a bare shell with interior into a running car to drive from M Nto TX.

Um, well I am not giving up on this turbo yet, I am going to make the switch to external gate to help with boost control/boost falling up top, maybe even help with spool.

Sorry no vids, I don't have a vid camera and I can't get anyone to get footage of my car or at least post it up for me.

For comparison sakes, I would say the 16G is awesome for a true DD/street car, but if you like to race on street or strip the fact the powerband has moved to a more "drag" style range is a lot better. To clear that up basically you can shift at redline and you start at max tq again, so perfect really.

I still have lag issues and boost falling issues but to be fair right now the cars are equal and I would say that I am getting used to the HX35 and loving it, I will be trying to stay with this turbo as much as possible esp. since people seem to be jumping with both feet straight at the hx40.

I can say that getting use to my "laggy" car i could see switching to a HX40 in the future, but for now this is awesome esp. for the price.
You can def. tell the difference in psi though. I turned it down to be safe while down here and I swear i must of lost 40-50 TQ thats only going from 35psi spike to 30spike the difference is that noticeable even to people that arent' car guys.

I say if you want more top end on the 16G and a bit more lag this is it. Tial 38mm (MVS?) and o2 housing here I come.
