Intake filter came apart, and since i was running a GM maft setup there was nothing to block the piece of metal from going through the pipe into the turbo inlet. Causing all the scaring and damage done to the compressor wheel.

Now would it be cheaper to send the turbo back for rebuild or ?!

BTW DO NOT BUY AN APC FILTER PERIOD........

Yes but obviously FP wouldnt cover the 'warranty' if any on it due to the fact a faulty intake filter from APC caused the turbo to be tornapart.

FP- what other turbo would bolt up to my current setup (talking cheap fix, if the HTA88 is done)

3" FP custom o2 housing
44mm wastegate vband w/ o2 dumptube
Fp race manifold

I was running 25psi on this HTA88 also...

Hopefully that compressor wheel its all you need. Out of curiosity, did your GM MAF still have the screen on it or was it removed?

He has my gm mas and it does have the screen. Without pulling the compressor housing and inspecting, it looked as if the only damage done was to the wheel and inlet of the compressor housing. I looked at it last night but now Im 100 miles away so I cant just go out and look at it closer in the daylight.

Man, i cna't tell you how many times i've seent his happen with those crap-ass filters. I've seen it in person twice here in omaha, one being a good friend of mine and the other just some kid i knew from the import scene telling me why his 240 isn't on the road anymore.. Also seen a lot of reports like this on the 'net too.. stay away from "acrappy-product-company"

Thanks matt, keith and everyone for their input.

I do plan on talking with amber also, she is usually who i deal with from FP anyway. I have posted a few WTT(want to trade ads) on various other dsm forums for FP style turbo that will bolt up to my current setup, everyone wants my set of volks though. Weighing options at this point, i would love to keep the turbo and eventually be able to repair it or get the same one when money is there (but its nowhere near there at this point in time)

The turbo obviously needs a new compressor wheel. We need to get the turbo in hand and measure the run-out on the shaft. There is a 50/50 chance the shaft is tweaked slightly from the incident, if so the repair could be costly. However you might find it settling that if all it needs is a new wheel, balance, and to dress the cover your only looking at $200-$300.

Thanks for the info. PM sent to you.

I hope they can fix it for you at a reasonable price sorry about the bad luck.

Someone asked if his Gm had a screen that wouldn't matter as I take it he had it setup like everyone else so he could vent his bov which means it was post turbo. This deff sucks and like everyone said hopefully it's just the compressor wheel. I have never seen a filter just break like that and I have used some suspect filters LOL but this will def show me that it's not worth it as I'm running a hx52 now with billet wheel and would SOL if that happend to mine.

you know apc stands for "A Piece of Crap". contact the A Piece of Crap company and tell them there piece of junk took out your 1800 dollar baby blender

Agreed, make them aware of the fact that their filter came apart under normal driving conditions, and threaten legal action and/or BBB if they don't pay for repairs.

Take it as lesson learned, don't use cheapo filters, K&N brand only.

yipes!

I just installed the FP 4" joint and had to pick up a rice-filter as locally I can't find any of the 4" K&N models. Guess what I'm ordering from Amazon tonight after seeing this?

Only thing is that my cheap filter I have doesn't have that center cap at the top it comes to a point and draws air from the top as well so nothing really to break off and get sucked in. I think if you can find this type that you would be ok but it's just scarry seeing that as I know APC won't do jack and FP now has seen this thread so your beat on that end too

Well it had nothing to do with FPs turbo they are great! and so is their product turbo, i love it! no ####.

They are working with me to get it fixed so thats awesome.

I would cry.... if that happened to me...:cry::cry::cry:

Also I suggest an AEM air filter, Doesnt get as dirty, and messy as the k&n's and there's no screen on the filter so you don't have to worry about it rubbing against stuff or getting chewed up and going into the intake as small debris..:thumb:
