Ok, here's the setup, I blew my t-25 to shreds basically and while it was down, my brother found me a hx35 for free. So I take my hx35 and a t3 mani to my mechanic, (I'm automotively retarded still) and let him hook it up. Well after about 3 weeks he calls and tells me that it's not going to work. I then locate an awesome deal on a 50 trim with a manifold, external wastegate and o2 with it. I drive 2 hours (both ways) to pick this setup up the next day and get it to him thinking that it will solve the problem for the time being.
Well he says he's good with turbos and superchargers and tuning and stuff so he said it shouldn't take him long. About another week and a half passes and he gives me a call to pick up my car. I head to the shop and talk to him about how the install went and stuff and he tells me that it "lags terribly and he got it up to 20 psi (on stock injectors mind you) and then it wouldn't go up that high again.
I didn't think much of it (being that I'm a newb to turbos and stuff and I heard they lag pretty good without a good tune), and procede to the shop, trying to get on it a little bit and get SOME boost anyway. I get to the exhaust shop and find out why it really won't boost. This idiot hooked up the wastegate backwards (valve facing down where the dump tube would be?). Well i go ahead and get the exhaust fixed and decide I'm going to take it back to the guy who installed it.
I arrive at the shop and ask him about it and he tells me exactly this, "It should work either way, plus it wouldn't fit in there the right way". So I ask him what he's going to do about it and he says there's nothing he can do, and that's when I noticed he didn't give me a reciept.
So at this point I'm getting pretty pissed and head back to the exhaust guy (who is excellent at cutting and welding and all that good stuff) to fix the manifold to where I can get it to fit right. After about 3 1/2 hours of messing with this manifold we finally get the wastegate to clear the power steering pump, so I decide to take it for a little test drive. I get out on the back roads and open it up a little and still nothing. So at this point I'm tired of messing with it, I'm tired of spending money on it (a good $450 easy already) and I'm ready to get my baby back on the road. Any suggestions as to what could be causing this problem would be great.

CLIFFS:
1. Mechanic hooks up wastegate backwards, runs it, and doesn't tell me about it
2. I take to get exhaust fixed, discover wastegate fiasco and take to mechanic
3. Mechanic tells me its fine and he can't do anything else with it.
4. Get wastegate fixed and still no boost
5. Tried boost leak test and checked for leaks in manifold and turbo and found none.
6. Confused and pissed off.

Sorry for the long post, its just been a long month, I'm broke, and exhausted.

Yes, I currently have everything hooked up correctly and can get nothing on any gear (and I've almost run it to redline through 3rd).

are you getting a boost reading off of a gauge or just that there is no feeling of boost? the only thing i can think of is that the wastegate is stuck open.

I think I can hear exhaust leaking from the wastegate, what is the fix for this (cheapest route if possible)?

ya start with the obvious. If you are getting no boost reading on your gauge then it has to be the wastegate. Check and make sure the turbo spins freely and that it isn't broken or anything. Check and see if your bov isn't just releasing the air. There is alot of things to check but start with the obvious.

Yea, i am getting the feeling of no boost in combination with no boost reading (autometer). I don't believe it is the blow off valve although I can check again. It may require a seal ring or whatever, I'm assuming goes between the valve and the where it seats. If this is the case, how much are they, and where could i start to look for one? I was wondering about the diaphram being blown due to it being hooked up backwards and there needing to be some way for the boost to escape (maybe blew it out and went out the little vacuum hoses?). Anyway, thanks for the quick responses and anything else you want to throw in that i may need to check would be great.

Let me guess, tial 38mm wg and no one knows that a sealing ring is supposed to be inserted into the valve against the piston, between the wg body and gasket? Am I getting close? Makes for a constant exhaust leak and building little to no boost.

This could be true, I dont know what brand the wastegate is but that is very possible. How do I go about resolving this issue and how much would you estimate a cost?

yes, it does, looks exactly like that and it came with a "bag-o-parts" that may have what I need in it, but my mechanic kept it and has probably disposed of it now. Do you have a pic of what I may need or have a link to find one. I hope you're right, because I definately don't have the money to replace a wastegate right now.

Tial wg and sealing ring.

Most any vendor that sells Tial parts can get a sealing ring for you. I have never bought one but Im guessing somewhere between $15-20 for a new one.

OK, thanks for the info. One more question, are these interchangable (by brand), obviously a 35mm won't fit a 44mm but as far as brand can i get by with a tial?

Most knockoff parts use the same parts as the original. If the wg was modeled after the tial, chances are the ring is the same. Do you have a pic of the wg?

I, personally, would go back to the mechanic and see if he still has it. If he is a real mechanic, he would have kept it thinking that he may have a use for it someday.
