Hi Guys,

I have an issue and not sure what is the real culprit. Check my member page for my mods, but im close to a full stage 2 in mods with a Junior Frank 19C ported/clipped turbo. I got it tuned (w/out a FPR) and had it pushing about 260 fwhp.

Now my concern is, shouldn't i be pushing upwards of 300+ fwhp? I had a pretty standard setup thats straighforward, so why arent i getting the gains i want. My car lags pretty bad if im in a gear and simply start to gas it. Prime example is around 2500 RMP's in 5th gear and start to accelerate. I can hear the spool and feel the air build up, but seems the car doesn't really go anywhere. What could cause this?

Anyway, if anyone has any idea as to why i have such low HP for my setup, please give me some recommendations. I'm thinkin of going to a green turbo with no clip to help the lag and gain some power. What do u think>?

That does seem quite low, i'm at 250 awhp with my evo3, evo3 manifold, 255hp walbro, and afc neo at a conservative tune.

I'm no expert but....

Check for boost leaks, Check your plugs to see if they're fouled, or gapped wrong, Check your spark plug wires. When my car was on the dyno I had MSD wires that were the big ones and they were arcing like crazy and the car sounded like sh!t. As soon as they put some NGK wires on it ran like a raped ape.

Or you might be running a bit rich if it's bogging like that.

You need a AFPR with a 255, the stock one cannot handle the bigger pump. This has been debated, but any debate is pointless, as it is fact. Sounds to me like you're running rich. Too rich a tune can cause bogging, and it can also cause a misfire. I'd say get it tuned again, but before you do so, check your ignition system, as irjoshy had suggested. You'd be surprised how much dying spark plugs or wires can affect your performance.

I couldn't agree MORE through my own personal experiences. Check the plugs and wires. I would also say do a boost leak test. You say that you can hear the turbo spool strong, so that is a good sign. So the air is there, it just seems from your description that it isn't getting to the engine. And yes, if you have a 255, no question about it, I don't care how many people 'claim' that they have a perfectly fine setup with a 255 and a stock fpr, get an AFPR. Less than $200, just do it :thumb: But yeah I would be surprised if you STILL have the problem after you check your spark power and intercooler connections.

You need to be looking at what's going on with a logger! You also need a way to see your AFR's what were they on the dyno?

I sold my first AFPR to help fund my motor swap back about 5 years ago, and up until a few months ago i ran my 255hp through a stock FPR, it may have been over run but by being able to tune the ECU i had no issues what so ever and honestly even with an AFC you shouldn't have any either.

One thing that was noticible was that when i went back to an AFPR my tune was super lean because the pressure dropped dramatically. I had to re-wire my pump when i went to the aeromotive AFPR as well becausei was using way too much pulse width up top because the fuel pump was not flowing well enough on the stock wires/volatge to keep up with the free flwoing regulator.

AFPR and plugs/wires aside, I still should be putting at least 280+ to the wheels.

Hell, I even notice when i have my electronic boost controller set to about 15 psi, when i hit WOT in 4th and 5th gear, and the wastegate opens, it makes a sputter sound. Like it opens and closes over and over and not a constant sound like the external dump makes. However in like 3rd gear pulls, it opens and stays open.

I'll get a FPR and check the plugs/wires in the mean time, but any other recommendations? The turbo seems legit, but has some nasty lag for being a 19C. What else could be robbing me of my power???
